In the last showdown, the Nittany Lions took over the Iowa Hawkeyes at the Bryce Jordan Centre with the help of a series of wins from NCAA Champions Roman Bravo Young, Max Dean, Aaron Brooks, Lev Haines, Carter Starocci, and Greg Kerkvliet. Consequently, Nittany Lions have remained undefeated in the last two matches against the arch-rivals Hawkeyes.
Once again, Nittany Lions are gearing up for Friday’s showdown to take over below-ranking Iowa Hawkeyes in a dual meet. However, the upcoming match is more challenging than it may seem. While Iowa Hawkeyes are aiming for redemption, Penn State wrestlers are igniting to make a win for their head coach.

In the upcoming showdown, Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Penn State wrestling, a gripping saga is unfolding. The major reason behind this is the head coach of the team, Cael Sanderson, who stands on the brink of etching his name into the annals of history by adding a last dual win to his remarkable streak of 200 wins. However, the wrestling spectacle between the two teams was not always the same as it is now.
When Penn State wrestling locked horns with its arch-rival Iowa Hawkeyes for the first time in 2008, the team faced a major upset in the first match. Interestingly, the team not only faced a defeat by 13-27 but also formed a base for their longest losing streak of 5 matches. Consequently, Penn State was defeated by Iowa Hawkeyes in five consecutive matches.
But, as the time passed, Penn State improved with Cael Sanderson. Now, the team reigns supreme at first position amongst collegiate wrestling teams according to the latest rankings by the NCAA Coaches Poll released earlier this year. However, this is not all Cael Sanderson is eyeing at.

Penn State’s head coach is aiming to take redemption from Iowa Hawkeyes by adding three more wins to their undefeated streak of two matches against Iowa Hawkeyes. Starting up fresh at the event, Cael Sanderson will be coming up with Braden Davis at the showdown to compete against Drake Ayala of Iowa in the 125-pound weight category.
Interestingly, the first matchup of the event has been among the most awaited matches as Braeden Davis, an undefeated wrestler at the weight, will be competing against Drake Ayala, a redshirt sophomore who is ranked sixth. While Davis is 5-0, Ayala features a 3-2 score against a common opponent, offering spectators a match with all gas and no breaks.
