Penn State Wrestling marked its sheer dominance over Edinboro, gaining enough momentum as they prepare for the Big Ten Championships. The Nittany Lions secured a commanding 55-0 shutout victory. The crowd at Rec Hall erupted with excitement, marveling at Penn State’s victory during the dual meet finale. Penn State won in all ten bouts, and none of the matches reached the third period.

The record-tying victory is a fitting tribute to the senior, as the match took place on the occasion of Senior Day. Seniors Beau Bartlett, Carter Starocci, Aaron Brooks, and Greg Kerkvliet among others capped off Penn State’s winning streak at the Rec Hall.

Seniors shine as Penn State wrestling dominates dual meet

The official Instagram account of Penn State Wrestling took to celebrate the record-tying historic triumph against Edinboro wrestlers. The infographic reads, “Penn State ties all-time largest program dual meet victory with 55-0 win over Edinboro.” As the Nittany Lions claimed the mat, a number of seniors proved their prowess.


Senior Beau Bartlett ranked No. 1 at 141 pounds, went on to record Penn State’s first pin during the match against Jacob Brenneman. Senior Carter Starocci (174 pounds) secured a tech fall in his match, while Senior Aaron Brooks (197 pounds) also shone in his tech fall barrage, winning his match 19-4. Senior Greg Kerkvliet (285 pounds) triumphed with a pin.

The win was a fitting celebration on Senior Day. Penn State gathered altogether 25 bonus points in the dual meet. Highlights include four pins from Beau Bartlett, Tyler Kasak, Levi Haines, and Greg Kerkvliet, besides five tech falls and a forfeit win. It was the third shutout for Penn State this year, which is the most it has had in a season. The 55 points tied for the most dual points scored, when the Nittany Lions topped Buffalo, 55-0 in 2018. The win gives the team a solid standing for the upcoming battle in a few weeks.

Gearing for the Big Ten Championships

Penn State is now intensely preparing for the 2024 Big Ten Championships. It is scheduled from March 9-10 at the University of Maryland. With their recent victory, they have received the boost to partake in the forthcoming championship.

Nittany Lions concluded the dual season with the notable 12-0 record, while also securing 8-0 in the Big Ten. However, the victory was overshadowed by an injury to senior wrestler Carter Starocci. After this match, Edinboro has receded to a 2-12 record.

The Big Ten tournament’s initial session will commence at 10 a.m. on March 9 bringing the Nittany Lions to action again. The coverage will be available on both the Big Ten Network and BTN+.
