US women’s freestyle wrestling stalwart Adeline Gray has clinched the bronze medal in the 76kg category at the Pan American Championships in Mexico. The 6x world wrestling champion entered an intense grappling contest with her opponent, Shauna Kuebeck, which took a rather unceremonious turn. However, Gray made sure to clinch her win within seconds against her Canadian counterpart.

USA Wrestling added a tweet on X to declare the victory of the 33-year-old with the caption, “WFS 76 kg – Bronze Medal Match – Adeline Gray 🇺🇸 wins by injury default 8 seconds into the match. #WrestleAcapulco. Gray claims 🥉 at the Pan-American Championships.”

This is the fifth Pan American Championship medal for Gray, who is a 3x gold medalist in the event. Notably, Adeline Gray also won the bronze medal at the 2023 World Wrestling Championship. Although this did provide valuable points to Team USA, it was a decline in performance for the wrestling superstar. Especially when she was the world gold medalist in 2021.

2021 marked the year Adeline Gray won her first-ever Olympic Games medal – a silver. But, the then 5x world champion didn’t let the silver linger on her for long and won her sixth world championship gold in Oslo. However, a bronze victory at the Pan American Championship will keep her hunger alive. Especially when her national teammates are quickly catching up to her.

The 2024 Pan American Championship marked the end of Helen Maroulis’ 12-year Pan Am Championship drought. The Olympic Champ secured the top gold via a 4-1 decision against Brazil’s Guillia Oliveira. While Maroulis re-entered wrestling after a break, an up-and-coming wrestler got a new international break in Mexico.

American wrestling sensation Katie Gomez also bagged a bronze medal at the 2024 Pan American Championship. Gomez showcased a demonstration of razor-sharp offense and rock-solid defense and won the match via a technical fall. Moreover, while the 53kg wrestler scored 10 points against Cuba’s Laura Herin Avila, she didn’t concede any points to her.
