The Pan Am Championship run has brought a good showcase of its prominence for USA men’s wrestling. Across 4 days of the event, the roster remained untouchable with every category that presided. Starting from the Greco-Roman team trophy, the team soared to sweep the freestyle throughout with 10 pinnacle finishes by day 4.
In attaining the triumphant finish, the USA men’s wrestling embraced numerous records and feats. As we look back on the successful week, here’s a look at a few stats specific to the Pan Am Championship battles.
US Men’s wrestling dominance at Pan Am Championships

One of the highlighted achievements at the Pan Am Championships was the clean sweep of freestyle. The US men’s wrestling started the spree with Nick Suriano, Kyle Dake, and Chance Marsteller on day 3. To tie it off, seven wrestlers blazed through 57-65-70-79-92-97-125 kg, to bring the tally to a complete 10.

In the process, the men went 33-0, exerting complete dominance across all bouts. It was further followed by 18 tech fall finishes, inclusive of performances by Spencer Lee and Alex Facundo in the finals rounds.
Topped by Jose Betancourt Kock’s pin by Nate Jackson in the final, the team recorded a total of 4 acts in the technique. Kyle Dake and Chance Marsteller’s win by forfeit to gold next brought the tally up to a total of 9.
Furthermore, out of all the performances, only 2 took the match to complete 6 minutes while Nate Jackson finished it off in 46 seconds against his Puerto Rican opponent. For the last stats, the performance led the team to put up a collective total of 226-14. Which in turn resulted in a perfect 250 points that brought along the team trophy. This collection of team triumphs, however, did not come without individual feats for the wrestlers.

Individual feats on a closer look
For starters, Spencer Lee returned to international action after almost eight years. Executing his undying skills, the champion stayed for 141 seconds on mats to ultimately claim a victory against a 5-time medalist. He was further followed by Kyle Snyder in 97kg. The Olympian defeated Arturo Torres for his sixth straight and seventh overall gold medal. While Nick Lee secured his gold against three-time medalist, Alec Pantaleo clinched his second title after 3 years.

For Alex Facundo, it was his first international gold following his U20 Pan Am Championship. And for Nate Jackson, falsely accused of doping during the 2021 Championships, it was a Golden Boot top honor. As the freestyle triumphed, so did men’s Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle. The two recorded 183 and 205 points respectively to get their hands on the team trophy. The conclusion marked a 7th consecutive clean sweep across all three categories for Team USA. Solidifying their position here, the wrestlers head stronger en route to Paris 2024.
