Following the ecstatic, triumphant victory against Iowa State, the Penn State Nittany Lions continue to astonish with yet another remarkable feat during their annual BJC dual. Nittany Lions shined brightly in its 2024 wrestling dual meet at the Bryce Jordan Center and clinched its 1,000th win in program history by defeating Rutgers.

Dominating Rutgers with 35-3 points in BJC Dual, Penn State has become the 6th team in NCAA Division I wrestling to reach the milestone. After Penn State’s historical achievement, the reigning Olympic wrestling gold medalist and Penn State alum, David Taylor, also applauded the Nittany Lion’s exceptional performance and shared his opinion about the wrestling team.

David Taylor cherishes Penn State’s second historic achievement

The wrestling squad of Penn State is enjoying a dominant season. Just recently, their coach Cael Sanderson registered his 200th win during his time with the team. Now, after this second achievement in recent times, Penn State legend David Taylor is one of those who could not stop himself from applauding the most talented team. Penn State Athletics took to its official X handle to share David Taylor’s opinion and wrote, “Hear from Olympic Gold Medalist, World Champion, 2x National Champion, and 2x Hodge Trophy Winner David Taylor at last night’s BJC Dual!.”

In the clip, appreciating the team David Taylor said, “It’s just extremely talented, you know, it’s talented, it’s deep, these guys are pushing each other every single day, and it’s exciting to watch them compete. Especially in an atmosphere like this at the BJC, Rec Ball is an unbelievable place to wrestle.” Alongside this, David also had his own excitement to share about the upcoming Olympic qualifiers that are going to take place in the same arena where Penn state notched their victory against Rutgers.

Pursuit of Olympic dreams

David Taylor expressed his excitement to compete in front of the Penn State crowd in the Olympic Trials. “ I’m part of Penn State as well, you know, so a lot of people here have been part of my journey for 15 years, and it’s exciting to kind of come full circle, the Olympic Trials are going to be in this building in 10 weeks, I have an opportunity to compete in front of them again, you know, it’s exciting, wrestling has opened up a lot of doors for me, and I’m looking forward to all the opportunities that it presents.”

The 86kg powerhouse, David, is amping up for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games. He also expressed his thoughts on having the great opportunity to showcase his skills on the international level. “I feel healthy, I feel strong, and I’m looking forward to competing in the Paris Olympics.” It remains to be seen how David upholds the glory of his Alma Mater and his country in the upcoming Olympics.
