Is Carter Starocci the next big thing in NCAA wrestling, or will he crumble under pressure?

The biggest match of the collegiate season is all set to happen. But it isn’t between old rivals or up-and-coming stars but between two of the best pound-for-pound athletes in the game. While many speculated that Carter Starocci would move two weight classes to battle AJ Ferrari, that is, unfortunately, not the case.

The upcoming match is set to happen between Carter Starocci and Parker Keckeisen. And it is set to happen on November 16th at the NWCA All-Star Classic. This clash at Penn State’s Rec Hall has the wrestling community excited. It’s an early preview of what could be a thrilling NCAA final of 2024, with history on the line for both competitors.

Carter Starocci has become a household name in college wrestling and is journeying to something unprecedented. He is after his fifth NCAA title. But the opponent going against him is no slouch, either! Parker Keckeisen may not have four titles to his name, but he has claimed one and has consistently finished in the top three places. The match is the perfect lead-up to the March showdown at the NCAA Championships in Philadelphia.

While exhibition matches usually don’t carry the same weight or hype as regular season or championships, this match feels different. The match puts number one-ranked Carter Starocci against second-ranked Parker Keckeisen. This matchup is the ultimate ‘best versus the best’ scenario. The win could potentially set the momentum and tone for the season to come.

This match, however, is not just about rankings for Carter. This could put him one step closer to etching his name as one of the greatest NCAA wrestlers in history. On the other hand, for Keckeisen, this is a chance to finally make it to the top. Parker doesn’t have multiple titles to his name because of one name, Aaron Brooks. Aaron is a Penn State legend, but now he is no longer in Parker’s way. It is officially Parker Keckeisen’s time to shine, that is, if he manages to get Starocci out of the way. While this could have been an easy task for Carter Starocci, he decided that he was going to challenge himself!

Carter Starocci is not just fighting for the fifth title; he is also moving weight classes. After establishing his place in the 174-pound weight class with four consecutive NCAA titles, Carter is ready for a change. Cater is moving to the 184-pound division this season. The decision to switch during his final collegiate season is a risky one. One that could make or break his entire season.

Starocci has only moved one weight class instead of two. Many fans predicted that he would target the 197-pound division, where he will finally settle his rivalry with AJ Ferrari. However, by choosing 184 pounds, Carter Starocci has dodged the bullet. Beef aside, for now, Carter will have to be satisfied by taking down the reigning 184-pound champion. If Starocci manages to win at the NWCA All-Star Classic, it would be the perfect statement that says he is ready for whatever challenges the 184-pound division throws at him.
