The popular Titan Mercury Wrestling Club had some great news to share today. The caption read, “@mendezjesse3 daring to be great as he takes on the MFS 65kg division this Saturday 11/18 at the 2023 Bill Farrell International.” The picture series, which featured Mendez in all his glory, sat right with the caption. Handpicking all his winning moments, Titan Mercury did a good job of celebrating the teen.

The senior-level athletes are stepping inside the ring tomorrow to compete in three categories. Those are Women’s Freestyle, Men’s Freestyle, and Greco-Roman. Mendez, rooting for the 65kg division win, is competing in Men’s Folkstyle with his US comrade Josh Rodriguez in 57kg. In Mendez’s first six college matches, he dominated the college season with 2 pins and 4 techs.

Moreover, for 3 consecutive years in 2016, 2017, and 2018, he won Indiana Middle School state champion titles. Even on a mission to make the 60kg Cadet world team, he clinched gold at the UWW cadet nationals. To sum up, he has had a successful career. Having said so, missing out on the gold at the recent 2023 U20 World Championships was nothing short of surprising to him. Though he agreed that he played well, the silver finish pissed him off.

Missing out on U20 gold

When USA Wrestling took to their YouTube to post an interview after Mendez’s team runners-up finish, he opened up on some personal experiences. He said, “I’m proud of myself. I think it’s the best wrestling I’ve had…I fell short, and I wasn’t the better wrestler today. It really s***ks right now, it stinks…. I keep my head down and keep working.” Having said that, he also acknowledged his growth and years of struggle.
