Jiu-Jitsu vs. Wrestling has been an age-old rivalry. From the onset of these two sporting disciplines, followers of both sports have been up in arms to prove which one is better. However, with recent developments in the NCAA circuit, it seems there might be a clear winner. For example, NCAA prospect Jason Nolf, an avid wrestler, initially competed in folkstyle before switching to freestyle. Competing in the 2022 World Cup, Nolf won the gold medal for his team, establishing his dominance over the others.

Nolf has also notched up golds in events like the Grand Prix and Pan American Championships. However, he is best known for being a 3x National Champion. Recently, Nolf has made headlines for an entirely different reason: he has switched to MMA. The success that followed has reignited the age-old rivalry between Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling.

Jason Nolf made his MMA debut a couple of weeks back. But the way he has dominated his opponents has garnered significant interest from his fans. Jason Nolf’s dominance in the MMA despite coming from a wrestling background has reignited the old troubles between the two sports. Well, Nolf’s initial dream was not MMA. He strived hard to clinch a berth at the Paris Olympics. Unfortunately, despite beating the likes of Jordan Burroughs, Nolf’s Paris dreams remained elusive. With his inclusion, the hype around the Craig Jones Invitational (CJI) is skyrocketing. The recent Instagram post of Alexander Wendling also echoed similar sentiments. It read, “Wrestling purists are officially intrigued and BJJ nerds better watch out.”

Nolf will be participating in the maiden edition of the Craig Jones Invitational tournament. While the tournament is still a couple of months away, Nolf’s fitness has made him a hot favorite to win the $1 million championship. Although Nolf is showing early promise, we will have to wait and see whether he can prove his worth in the MMA circuit in the future. But Jason Nolf is not the only wrestler to have ventured into MMA.

The first name that comes to mind is Ken Shamrock. Starting his career as a professional wrestler for Atlantic Coast Wrestling, Shamrock soon switched to MMA. After making the switch, he secured a deal with the UFC and became a champion for a while. Another prominent NCAA wrestler who switched sides was Brock Lesnar. Lesnar was a beast in the NCAA and later carried his dominance to pro wrestling and the WWE ring. However, Lesnar’s UFC antics are what made him a fan favorite.

Stepping into uncharted territory, Lesnar finished with a 6-3 record in the UFC. What’s more, he also became the UFC heavyweight champion for a brief period, defeating legends like Frank Mir, Randy Couture, and more. Apart from these wrestlers, others who decided to switch from wrestling to MMA include Bobby Lashley, Dave Bautista, CM Punk, and more. Thus, with Jason Nolf’s induction into MMA, interest will definitely be at its peak to see how he fares in the discipline.
