After suffering from a staggering loss against No. 5 Nebraska, the University of Michigan Wrestling team has catapulted back. Following an intense showdown with No. 23 Indiana, the Wolverines secured a phenomenal 30-6 victory in their final Big Ten Conference dual. Wolverines had little room for error, and it perfectly utilized the opportunity, which was the key focus of coach Sean Bormet.
Ahead of this much-anticipated matchup, head coach Sean Bormet reflected on the lag in leg attacks which led to a tough loss against Nebraska. Bormet, however, had full confidence in the Wolverines, emphasizing their ability to bounce back. And, Michigan’s wrestling team has now come off stronger. Michigan Wolverines have turned their setbacks into strength, leading to their strong triumph in the Big Ten dual finale, commanding a 30-6 victory. After the match, the official Twitter handle of Michigan Wrestling took to post an exclusive interview, featuring Head Coach Sean Bormet, who reflected on the matchup, as the caption interestingly reads, “Post-match Bormet.”

Revealing his thoughts about the “big bounce-back win,” he remarks, “We’re just continuing to plow through the season.” According to Bormet, the team is working on various forefronts, “attack rate, finishing, riding,” among other things.
The interviewer further questioned the mentality that the coach instilled in his team, to ride to victory. To this, Bormet expressed confidence in his team’s ability and their strategic determination. According to the coach, “Just wrestling with consistency in terms of effort, intensity, and making things go your way in the 50-50 positions. And wrestling through every position” was the key focus. Overall, he commended the team for their “great effort” to wrestle hard during the match. Indeed the whole team contributed to it.
The way Michigan came back stronger
Michigan won eight out of ten bouts against Indiana in the recent matchup. They took to mark dominance early in the game, winning in the first four bouts. Not only this, Nolan Wertanen and Dylan Ragusin also earned bonus-point victories. Michigan also added to its momentum with Joseph Walker’s late takedown for an upset win over 21-ranked Donnell Washington.

Further, in their respective weight class, wrestlers Sergio Lemley and Austin Gomez secured crucial wins. Altogether, it was a team effort that helped Michigan Wolverines to clinch victory. Now Michigan is heading for its next event against Central Michigan on February 25 at McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
