Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling team is lately gearing up for its upcoming showdown against No. 1 Penn State. Meanwhile, one of its former wrestlers is following a different path. The former Hawkeyes, who has the honor of being a four-time NWCA Scholar Athlete, has been under the spotlight for his recent recruitment.

Last year, on December 19, Michael Kemerer shocked everyone with a sudden and unexpected decision. Despite his astonishing career, the Iowa Hawkeyes star announced his retirement from wrestling without any reason. Once again, after seven weeks of official retirement, Michael came back to the spotlight, this time for a new beginning.

In a recent post, Brown Wrestling took to their Instagram account and posted a couple of pictures of Michael Kemerer while appreciating the former Hawkeyes wrestler for joining the team as a coaching staff. Along with the pictures, they penned, “Welcome the newest member of our staff! Michael Kemerer joins Brown Wrestling after an incredible career at the University of Iowa! He was the Hawkeyes’ first 5x All-American in program history along with being an NCAA finalist in 2021‼️

Last year, Michael made an announcement declaring that he would be retiring from his wrestling career soon after graduating from Iowa Hawkeyes. In an Instagram post, he wrote, “After some reflection over the past few weeks, I’ve decided to retire from wrestling. Thanks to everyone who has supported me over the years!”

The news came as an absolute surprise, given Kemerer’s staunch wrestling career. He featured a 100-12 career record while going 55-12 against ranked opponents. Besides that, he has also posted 55 career dual starts. Interestingly, in his goodbye post itself, Kemerer gave a heads-up for his upcoming venture.

Kemerer wrote, “Pumped to transition 100% into coaching and incorporate everything I’ve learned over the years. Onward.” Understandably, he wanted to deliver the skills, he learned to the wrestlers he would be training. That wish finally found its place in the role of the assistant coach, which he took up. However, he takes up the position during a crucial point for the Browns.

Will Kemerer’s addition change Brown University’s course?

In the past five matches, Brown Wrestling failed to overcome the intense pressure and lost the showdown, ending up with a losing streak of 5 matches. Although last season was quite fortunate for the wrestling team as they finished with a win, this year has not been fortunate for the team till now.
