David Taylor looked like an unbeatable force until he lost his crown before the Paris Olympics. Heavily expected to defend his title in Paris, Taylor had a shocking result at the Olympic trials. Getting humbled by Aaron Brooks, Taylor’s half-a-decade-long dominant run came to a screeching stop. Upset by the sad turn of events, Taylor immediately switched to the role of being a wrestling coach.

However, despite his best attempts, Magic Man could not make the wrestler inside him subside. As a result, just four months into embracing his new role, Taylor was soon back to what he does best- wrestling on the mat! The 34-year-old announced his return to the 2024 World Championships in September. And while there was widespread doubt about whether Taylor still got it, the Olympic champion was right on the money.

With 180 wins and just 2 losses, as Taylor puts it, he just “got lucky.” Looking back at what he had achieved, the Olympic champion stated, “33 years old. The best in the world four times. That alone is, I think, a pretty cool way to end the sport.” Meanwhile, coming together to shower the Magic Man with best wishes, fans cannot help but praise the wrestling legend on his birthday.
