The NCAA Division I Wrestling is going strong as the 2023 NCAA Championships fast approaching. The Iowa Hawkeyes have been performing brilliantly like always under head coach Tom Brands. While the Hawkeyes are currently going flawless in their campaign with a 5-0 score, they are still not at the top. But, a new development shows that this may soon change.

AJ Ferrari is a former collegiate wrestler who started as a true freshman in 2021. Interestingly, he is also the 2021 NCAA Wrestling Champ. A recent social media post suggests that Ferrari will soon be back in action after a hiatus. In fact, he may join the camp of Tom Brands and wrestle for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

AJ Ferrari recently added a new post to his Instagram page catching the attention of collegiate wrestling fans. The post carried the caption, “AJ FERRARI, Mr. Fast Twitch (goes to) the University of Iowa?” While the caption carried a question mark, Mr. Fast Twitch posted an image of himself with the Iowa Hawkeyes singlet.

Ferrari had also tagged the Instagram handle of Iowa Hawkeyes Wrestling and had taken an official visit to the University of Iowa. No confirmations have been received from either party so far. But, many signs indicate that Iowa is the next stop for the 2021 NCAA wrestling champ.

Angelo Ferrari, the youngest sibling of AJ, is currently committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Moreover, his brother Anthony is also residing and training in Iowa City. Thus, it won’t be very surprising for Mr. Fast Twitch to side with the Iowa Hawkeyes. But, while Ferrari is interested in Iowa, does Tom Brands have space for him in his roster?

The current wrestling roster of the University of Iowa

According to his recent social media activity, it is reported that Ferrari weighs 205lbs right now. Thus, he is very likely to join the Iowa Hawkeyes as a 197lbs wrestler. Ferrari ruled this weight class in 2021 as a true freshman and along with his championship, he had a 19-1 record. He enjoyed a great 10-0 start in 2022, but couldn’t compete further due to an injury. Finally, in July, his former team of OSU delisted him from its roster.

While AJ Ferrari has the perfect resume, the Iowa Hawkeyes already have a really good 197-pounder. Zach Glazier is a starter for the Iowa Hawkeyes and currently holds a 5-0 record in the 197lbs category. Moreover, he also ranks at number 25 in this weight class. With his profile and his comeback after a hiatus, Ferrari would like to wrestle as a starter as well. Will Mr. Fast Twitch be seen permanently donning the gold and black singlet?
