Since the beginning of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) wrestling tournament, the participating wrestlers have offered an enthralling showdown to the spectators. As the tournament advanced, every participating team found itself with an opportunity to make an uplift in the NCWA rankings dashboard.

Interestingly, by flaunting an incredible performance, team Iowa has made it to the top spot. On November 16th, Iowa women’s wrestling team jumped to number no. 1 as per the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll. Even though the team ranked 8th at the beginning of the year, it has uplifted the rankings after a trio of dominating performances.

On November 17th, the USA Wrestling shared the news of team Iowa making it to the top. Captioning the tweet, the USA restling penned “.IowaW_Wrestling jumped to No. 1, with 13 ranked individuals and two athletes at No. 1 in the NCAA Women’s Rankings. Defending NCWWC champion NCCwomensWR drops to No. 2, with KING_wwrestling coming in at No. 3.”

Originally ranking at the 8th position in the tournament, the Hawkeyes not only shot up the rankings but also dominated the tournament with three exceptional showdowns. These intense games played to open the season were against the opponents, East Stroudsburg, Princeton Open, and Trailblazer Duals. 

As per the updated polls released by the NWCA team, Iowa also reigns the individual-wrestler rankings. Among Hawkeyes, three exceptionally talented wrestlers featured at the top of their classes. While five of these wrestlers are second, eleven of them are included in the top five rankings

Wrestling strategies used by Team Iowa 

Iowa’s wrestling team performed well in both duals and in the Princeton Open. The team snatched the game from opponents using intelligent moves in the duals. They led 13 wins by fall, 23 wins by tech fall, two by forfeit, and a win by decision. On the other hand, the team in the Princeton Open featured 21 wins by fall and 26 by tech fall. Despite using strategical moves, the Hawkeyes also witnessed one loss in duals and 19 losses in the Princeton Open.

Furthermore, North Central is the second on the poll underneath Iowa’s wrestling team. Eventually, North Central is also the topmost competitor to team Iowa. Although team Iowa is standing atop the podium now, they are all girded up to maintain their top rankings in the coming matches. The Hawkeyes will enter the arena against their topmost contender on 10th December at the North Central College Invite. Will the Hawkeyes be able to maintain their position?
