The 2022 world silver medalist and former Pan American Games champion has strewn multiple accolades on the NCAA wrestling mat. As Diakomihalis sets his sights on Paris 2024, the unstoppable force in wrestling couldn’t help but marvel at the Iowa Hawkeyes’ stellar performance.

Hawkeyes’ determination gets highlighted

Yianni Diakomihalis was captivated by the high-flying Hawkeyes, who continued their winning spree against the Huskers. In the previous matchup against arch-rivals Iowa State Cyclones, the team had subdued the opponent wrestlers with unprecedented vigor and skills. As the Big Ten season continues, the projectile feathers of the Hawkeyes seem to have sharpened even more. Nevertheless, Yianni Diakomihalis was bowled over by their aggressive playstyle and their athletic feats on the mat. On an X post, he gave sway to his admiration for the team’s impeccable performance, writing, “You can see Iowa as a team puts a lot of focus into mat returns & riding”.

Yianni Diakomihalis’ commendations came following the last-minute upheaval on the scoreboard that reduced the difference between the Hawkeyes and the Huskers to eight points. Nebraska was getting ready to land another blow after the 184kg standout Lenny Pinto secured a 17-5 major decision, but the Iowa Hawkeyes saw them coming from a mile away.

In the 197kgs matchup, Zach Glazier brought home another victory for the Iowa Hawkeyes against Silas Allread. This final duel sealed the deal for the Iowa wrestling team. The winning effort totaled a 22-10 in favor of the Hawkeyes. The team moved up the rung on the Big Ten championship with a 6-0 track record.
