Verbal courtside clashes are not uncommon in sports, especially when it comes to combat sports. Moreover, this urge to burst out isn’t limited to the players but extends to the coaches as well. The most recent encounter of this was seen at the sidelines of a dual between Penn State Wrestling and the Maryland Terrapins.
PSU is currently ranked one on the NCAA Division 1 leaderboard owing to its unbeaten and mighty season run. But, when Penn State Wrestling overextended its dominance on Maryland, Terrapins coach Alex Clemsen was seen getting into a verbal clash with PSU’s Casey Cunningham. Standing against this, Nittany Lions champ Carter Starocci added a social media post bashing Clemsen for his behavior.

Carter Starocci took to X and added a tweet saying, “Blow bag. Coach Casey would fold that man like an accordion. I woulda had to come over the top of with a hook though.” The ranked one 174-pounder made it clear that Penn State Wrestling knows how to get up close and personal as well. But nothing happened because of the ethical grounding of PSU, which Clemsen lacked.

Starocci’s tweet came in a reply to a tweet showcasing a video of Clemsen going up to Cunningham and blurting, “No! You don’t have to pin.” Apparently, Penn State Wrestling had utterly destroyed Maryland with a score of 42-6. The Nittany Lions were already winning big via technical falls, despite this, they also tried to go all the way and score pinfalls.
This bugged Alex Clemsen a lot, who ragefully chose a very wrong way to cope with the frustration he experienced. This wasn’t just a disrespect to Coach Casey, but also to Maryland wrestlers, whose coach asked their opponents to go easy on them. Not listening to the unruly words of Clemsen Penn State Wrestling secured four pinfalls. In fact, even Starocci pinned his opponent in the 174lbs bout.

This list also included PSU’s breakout freshman star Braeden Davis who opened the tally for Penn State Wrestling. The 125-pounder secured a flawless 15-0 win against his opponent Tommy Capul. This win added to the recent upset he pulled against Michigan’s Michael DeAugustino, and he is now at rank four in his category. What are your thoughts on the behavior of Alex Clemsen?
