Can Bo Bassett really conquer both NCAA wrestling and the UFC, or is it just a dream?

As the college recruitment season starts to get heated, the top recruit for the season seems to have his targets elsewhere. Bo Bassett dropped a clanger that has got the fandom excited. After reclaiming the #1 position, Bo is no longer just focused on the mat. He also got his eyes set on the octagon. And he made his ambitions clear even before he stepped into collegiate wrestling!

Guessing Bo isn’t thinking about just NCAA titles anymore but also UFC belts. Bo Bassett’s last win against Daniel Zepeda seems to have a never-before-seen confidence. And why wouldn’t it? Bo, after all, took down Zepeda with a 12-6 lead. Despite the match being an iconic one, moments before the match were priceless. The cheers showed the world the love Bo had already earned. As the walkout music played, he jogged into chants of “Let’s go, Bo,” roaring. Now, that’s the kind of support and win that would boost anybody’s confidence!

Bo recently took to Instagram for a quick Q&A interaction with his fans. A fan went on to ask Bo if we’d ever see him fight in the UFC. His response? A confident “FOR SURE.” The conviction does not end there. Intrigued by the response, another fan asked if he would consider MMA after his wrestling career. “I will be a UFC Champion,” replied Bo. This, however, is not the first time Bo has dabbled with the idea of being in the octagon. The idea comes from a familial river of passion for MMA.

Bo’s father dabbled in MMA, and his nephew trains in Jiu-Jitsu! It was his uncle who first introduced him to the sport. Speaking about the same, Bo, in an interview with UFC, said, “Obviously, the wrestling guys like Pico and Nickal who are coming up, but Khabib was the man……..My dad was always a big fan of those guys, Chuck Liddell and stuff. It was always a lot of fun to watch those guys.” It definitely seems like the childhood exposure has given him something to look forward to. Talking about the future, there was no way that the fandom missed a Q&A chance to ask about college plans!

Despite the UFC speculations bringing in a lot of excitement, one fan cleverly asked if he was planning on being a four-time NCAA champion and a UFC champion. Bo’s answer? “Sounds like a great plan, right?” It sure does. Before transitioning into MMA, however, comes the collegiate season and college decisions. Does UFC mean Bo is no longer thinking of college? Bo had sneakily given out those answers in 2023 itself!

What’s the tea on the uncommitted status?

In 2023, Bo Bassett told the world his goals long before he came into the spotlight. “My goal is to obviously go to college and get my degree. I also have the goal to win four NCAA titles. I think 2028 would be my best year, maybe 2032 Olympic cycle and transition into fighting,” he said. While Bo continues to be uncommitted, college definitely seems like it is on the horizon.

And how could it not be? Bo has already hit week 17 of his unconventional method of college decision. As of now, Bo has narrowed his 80-school list down to 15 schools. The latest college to be kicked? Air Force. Before feeling disheartened, remember Penn State, Oklahoma State, and Michigan are still on the list. With David Taylor recently giving out his nuanced plan for OSU and even competing in the Worlds, the weighing scale seems to be tipping toward the oranges.

However, Michigan is the only college that seems to have seen Bo’s parents come in. And let’s not forget Penn State. When it comes to Cael Sanderson and the Nittany Lions, the legacy is hard to fight with. Yet, Bo Bassett has managed to keep up the intrigue and continue his methodical approach. Week after week, eliminating one college that doesn’t feel right. With Bo Bassett’s drive and focus, who knows, he just might end up dominating collegiate wrestling and the UFC!
