Could David Taylor vs. Abdulrashid Sadulaev on American soil redefine international wrestling rivalries?

Get ready, wrestling fans! The Professional Wrestling League (PWL) is all set to turn the heat back on! And this time, it will be a dual meet between Russia and Iran on November 23 in Moscow. The dual is set to see some of the biggest names from both countries battling it out. But the timing of this announcement is an interesting one. It comes amidst a season of open challenges and changes. The Magic Man, aka David Taylor, recently called out Abdulrashid Sadulaev for a match on American soil!

Sadulaev, Russia. I know you’re watching. Let’s find a way to get you over here. Let’s wrestle,” said David Taylor. This isn’t just a mere challenge. It was also a way to bring the biggest names in wrestling to America. As soon as the PWL announcements were made, the netizens were quick to ask for a dual in America. Imagine three-time World Champion David Taylor taking on four-time World Champion Abdulrashid in his homeland! Truly chills! While the speculations continue, the League in Moscow could just be a precursor to something big on American soil.

Now, coming back to what’s happening in Moscow. The PWL event will happen on November 22 with the Greco-Roman matches. This will be followed by freestyle wrestling the next day. And with such intriguing announcements, it comes as no surprise that the anticipation has begun! One fan, unable to control the excitement, even went on to write, “This is the best international dual meet in recent years! Imagine we have competitions between Iran, Russia, the USA, and Japan. That would be epic!”

Epic it will be! It is becoming rather evident that the wrestling community is ready to see the sport have more international leagues. And this PWL could be the beginning of something big. While the matches are going to be high-octane, one fan couldn’t help but point out how the first few weight classes are going to be “brutal.” Let’s not forget the lineup that awaits at the volleyball arena “Dynamo” in Moscow.

The mats will see Lev Pavlov vs. Milad Valizadeh at 57 kg and Zavur Uguev vs. Ebrahim Khari at 61 kg, amongst others. But the match that seems to be drawing the maximum attention has to be the one with Kamran Ghasempour, the reigning World Champion. He will be competing at 86 kg this year. The speculations have begun, and they are as interesting as ever!

PWL is building up to be a series of duals to remember!

Talking about Ghasempour, one fan went on to say, “What’s notable is Ghasempour wrestling at 86 kg right after wrestling worlds at 92 kg.” Switching weight classes is always a risky move; it could make or break the season for a wrestler. But that doesn’t seem to be the case for Ghasempour. After winning gold in the 2021 and 2022 World Championships, he decided to switch things up for 2024!

At the PWL 7, Ghasempour will wrestle in the 82 kg category. Something that is not entirely unfamiliar to him. He has, after all, won the World U23 Championships twice in the 86 kg category. But his competition this year is just as formidable as him! Ghasempour will be taking on Ibragim Kadiev of Russia. Kadiev is a Russian national champion at 86 kg. The level of competition seems to be adding more intrigue to the upcoming matches.

As another fan rightly put it, “first six weights are going to be brutal.” The first match will be against Lev Pavlov, who is set to face Milad Valizadeh. While the second match is an equally exciting one, with Zavur Uguev going against Ebrahim Khari. Shamil Mamedov takes on Rahman Amouzadkhalili in the third match, while the fourth will happen between Inalbek Sherievb and Amir Mohammad Yazdanicharati in 70 kg.

Last but not least, Zaurbek Sidakov will battle Ali Rezaeiaghouzgeleh in 74 kg. The competition is not going to be an easy one. But the goal of the dual remains larger.

As one fan rightly hoped, “A professional wrestling league? This is awesome! I hope this one takes off!” Amidst all the hype, the League seems to be unknowingly forming a sense of community. The optimism around PWL is an overwhelming one. But a good one nonetheless. It is turning out to be more than just a series of matches.

It is a chance for wrestlers to show their skills on an international stage. And who knows? Perhaps this is just the beginning of a new era in professional wrestling! An era that could potentially see David Taylor’s open challenges come to life. The PWL has garnered so much attention that even Japanese wrestler Rei Heiguchi went on to say, “I wanna watch this!!!!!”
