Back in the summer of this year, while the team Wisconsin Badgers was about to witness the early stages of a country’s international tour, one of its key players, Sarah Franklin was resting at home. Junior outside the hitter of Wisconsin’s team saw an intense upset in the form of a rare injury. Unfortunately, she had a rare injury called Quadrilateral Space syndrome that she might have witnessed due to compression in nerves and arteries.
Although such injuries are rare, athletes involved in sports having overhead moments and throwing are at the greatest risk. Therefore, Team Wisconsin’s Big Ten Player of the Week was told to rest at home rather than join her teammates. Despite all the obstacles that came Franklin’s way, the Volleyball legend did not lose hope and became an example for people across the globe.
Overcoming the Challenges
Sarah Franklin has her name in the Big Ten Volleyball Championships by performing exceptionally well on and off the court. She recently made it to the spotlight not for her exceptional play on the volleyball court but for tackling life obstacles. A recent tweet by Big Ten Volleyball was captioned as “If you don’t know sarahfrankk13’s story, pay attention. Emily Lehman shouts out the star BadgerVB’s amazing journey back to the court.”
One of the best stories in college athletics is of Wisconsin’s outside hitter, Sarah Franklin. It started a few weeks ago when the Wisconsin’s volleyball team left for the international airport this summer. Soon after stepping onto the flight, Sarah began to feel numbness in her fingers.
In the same tweet, Emily Ehman Said, “They ran tests and ended up finding some blood clots in her legs. She was told she might have lost a limb, if she went on that plane as the team was going to turkey. she was told she might never play volleyball again. They rushed her to the hos[pital for emergency surgery.“

Sarah Franklin spent four days in the emergency at the hospital as she was diagnosed with blood clots. At that time, Sarah showcased her true potential by enduring the physical and mental tests for not being with her teammates. However, the major spectacle was to watch Sarah back on the court.
The match played right after the diagnosis as Wisconsin Badgers
As she witnessed an upset a few days before the match, Sarah was ready to dominate the championships. Soon after entering the court to compete with the opponent team, Sarah was expected to take some rest as she would not be able to perform with all her strength. In contrast, Sarah passed with flying colors, destroying the limited perception of the spectators.
Although she was on blood thinners when she was back on the court, Sarah promised herself to overcome each hurdle that came her way to her ultimate love of volleyball. Eventually, she worked back to full strength, and less than three months later, she not only looked better, but the recovery was visible on the court as well.
Fortunately, she started her first match against the ranking opponent and secured a Wisconsin Badgers high of 13 kills. Emily Lehman added, ” Now Sarah Franklin is a front-runner for the Big Ten Player of the Week leading one of the best teams in the nation.” Interestingly, Sarah set an example for the coming generation of volleyball aspirants that everything can be achieved with hard work and perseverance, don’t you agree?
