On December 17th, the Texas Longhorns fans received a great present for the upcoming Christmas holidays when the Longhorns lifted the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Volleyball title. The victory was a result of the great volleyball and leadership culture that the Longhorns carry within their team.

The Texas Longhorns stood atop the podium at the 2023 NCAA finals for the same reason as last year when outside hitter Logan Eggleston led the charge. Following suit, this year too, Eggleston has received a major honor from the NCAA for her prominent role in leading the Longhorns to victory. She has been chosen as a top leader because of the several milestones she achieved at both college and nationally.

Texas Longhorns superstar to be the face of change

The NCAA posted a tweet via its official account on X to announce the grand honor for the former Texas Longhorns captain. The tweet carried the caption, “@loganeggleston_ of @texasvolleyball experienced accelerated growth through the diverse leaders around her. The 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year Top 30 honoree aims to use her influence to help others become the best version of themselves.”

Eggleston earned the prestigious annual honor for her skill on the court and her leadership. She was a great player and the first Longhorns star to receive the AVCA National Player of the Year Award. Alongside that, however, she also led the Texas Longhorns to five back-to-back conference titles.

The outside hitter wasn’t just a leader on the volleyball court. She also served as the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory for two years. She started the Developing Neighborhood Athletes Fund which worked to raise funds to create sporting opportunities for underprivileged Austin youth aspiring to go into sports. In fact, was also the co-founder of a body to ensure equity.

A leader to down to the bone marrow

Eggleston co-founded and presided over the Longhorns for Equity initiative. This student body pooled funds and transferred them to the right institutions that catered to the diverse but underprivileged communities. The NCAA chose the 3x Big Twelve Player of the Texas Longhorns as a top 30 ‘Woman of the Year’ honoree for these key reasons.

Speaking about receiving the honor, The Texas Longhorns veteran said that she discovered that she was actively passionate about helping others. Eggleston mentioned that she received help from people of various identities and backgrounds herself and would like to give back the same.
