Can volleyball ever rival the popularity of MLB or NBA in the hearts of American sports fans?

Volleyball is definitely on the rise in the USA. While it might not be as popular as MLB or NBA, or even soccer for that matter, women’s volleyball has developed a steady fan following in recent times. And now, USA Volleyball is en route to taking more steps to boost the growth further in the coming days. Walking in this direction, the USAV will use its resources to better appreciate the people who help volleyball move forward.

The country’s apex volleyball body is set to increase the pay of the officials who work at its owned 2024-25 indoor and beach volleyball events. The USA Volleyball director Pati Rolf, officials said, “Officials are essential for USA Volleyball events.” The 2025 Girls’ Junior National Championships, the Boys’ Junior National Championship, and the Beach National Championship will all benefit from the pay rise. Along with the athletes in these competitions, the officials are also an integral part of the game, the authorities want to make sure they feel a part of the growth.

National-level officials, including head referees, to FIVB or continental-level international officials, everyone employed by the USA’s supreme volleyball body will see better pay in the 2024-25 season. R1/R2 – FIVB/Continental International Referees will receive $57 a day, while line judges will get as much as $43 a day. On the beachball side of things, the budget is even higher. Between a half and a full day’s of work, there’s a difference of about $50, with the higher limit going up to $400 a day.

Our officials are some of the best in the world. They take time away from their families and other activities and sometimes other jobs to work our events and they should be compensated for that,” said Rolf. More incentives are added to the basket, which also includes free Mizuno gear, to make sure the officials will have something to look forward to at matches as well.

With that, the popularity of volleyball in the country is also expected to aspire for a greater benchmark. Considering how the game has seen increasingly higher footfall at even collegiate matches in recent years, it’s safe to say a betterment in quality will also get more fans to hit the stadiums to show their support.

USA volleyball is experiencing never-before-seen viewership

In recent times, women’s volleyball has seen a massive increase in popularity. The exciting collegiate volleyball scenario has certainly helped, and Nebraska has undoubtedly been leading the charge. The Huskers fill arenas to the brim almost every time they host their NCAA opponents at the Devaney Center. Not just at home, but the team’s fans have also made their voices heard while on the road. Last season, while the Huskers maintained their composure even at away games, the fans made sure to make their presence felt with thundering chants. The Memorial Stadium has also been witness to how 92,003 fans can join hands to supply morale to the athletes.

The incredible popularity of the Huskers has also helped other organizers and tournaments to flourish in the state. During the first days of the inaugural edition of Real Pro Volleyball, fans were not disappointed and professed their love for the game vehemently. The Pro Volleyball Federation’s ambitious project has been met with severe enthusiasm from the fans. On the other hand, it looks like the popularity of volleyball has only increased despite the men’s and women’s national teams not being able to win gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
