Illinois Volleyball recuperated nicely after the harrowing defeat at the hands of their rivals from Nebraska. The team recalibrated their potent offensive capabilities from their final home match against Michigan. The team sauntered to the winner?s podium amidst loud cheers from the proud Illini fans at Huff Hall. After the match one volleyball ace from the team proclaimed that she would bleed orange and blue for another season.

Raina Terry was instrumental in the team?s victory against Michigan. Nevertheless, her charm went beyond this one game as she had accomplished a Big10 feat that was untouched all season. Now that she has unveiled her intention to stick with the team for one more season, the Illini family lifted her up in a cheerful social media post.

Illinois Volleyball?s triumphant celebration of Raina Terry?s Big10 feat

Recently, Illinois Volleyball posted an X post that read, ?In dominant fashion?. Those words accompanied a banner which captured Raina Terry in the midst of an exuberant exhilaration after securing a victory. The banner announced, ?1 OF 1 ONLY BIG PLAYER WITH 500+ KILLS THIS SEASON RAINA TERRY?. The banner reminded the fans of the game against Michigan where Terry scored her 508th kill of the season. She was the top scorer of the night with 17 kills. She was only the 16th player in her squad?s history to secure this rare Big 10 feat.

With Raina Terry?s help the Orange and Blue scored 41 kills against the Wolverines. Her hitting average was .400, which was impressive considering the tough competition. Terry’s dominance was further assisted by teammates Brooke Mosher, Caroline Barnes and Cari Bohm who scored major blocks and digs. Remarkably, Raina Terry turned a drawback into an opportunity to stay with the team for another season.

A Covid comeback

Illinois Volleyball lost many of their senior players when they graduated earlier this year. The gap left behind in the team from the loss of Jessica Nunge threw their Big 10 contention into uncertainty. However, Raina Terry pulled the squad onto more stable grounds and helped them secure the top spot on the table. Illinois Volleyball tweeted about her return saying, ?Raina Terry appears set to come back and use her COVID year of eligibility at Illinois?.

Raina Terry was the only senior Illini fighter who could use her COVID card to stay with the squad for another season. With a career-high score of 163, Terry is aiming to overwrite the Big 10 record in the next season. She has set her sights on Mary Eggers? score of 180 which will be her milestone to surpass next year.
