The Big Ten Volleyball Championships have asserted every possible element of thrill among the spectators. As the event continues to take up the spotlight, as each of the conference teams is engaging in a thrilling showdown against each other to dominate the scoreboard. Along similar lines, after its playoff against Michigan State on November 12th, Purdue received a series of accolades in different segments for its staunch performance throughout the week.

Standing in the top 4 rankings on the Big Ten Conference table, Purdue has taken up the spotlight. On the same note, the Purdue Volleyball team received a multitude of weekly awards for their performances. Although there are other players on the list as well, team Purdue’s players have not only taken up one but three of the awards in the championships. 

Purdue’s Volleyball Team Dominates Big Ten Weekly Awards

A recent tweet by Big Ten Volleyball was captioned as, “B1GVolleyball WEEKLY AWARDS Player: PurdueVB’s Raven Colvin, Defensive: PurdueVB’s Lourdes Myers, Setter: PennStateVBALL’s Mac Podraza, Co-Freshman: Husker vb’s Andi Jackson, Co-Freshman: PurdueVB’s Chloe Chicoine.”

The Big10 Volleyball Conference announces Big Ten weekly awards each week every month. Similarly, the conference recently announced the weekly awards for the week dated 7th November to 12th November. Even though all the players performed exceptionally well to make their respective teams rank high, only a few of them made it to Big10 Weekly awards. 

While teams Penn State, Nebraska and Purdue achieved awards this week, Team Purdue dominated the awards as three of its players took up weekly awards. The Player of the Week award at Big Ten Weekly was grabbed by team Purdue’s middle blocker Raven Colvin. She clinched the first rank by achieving 12 kills and a .417 hitting percentage, the season’s best. Eventually, she took up this award by replacing Chloe Chicoine. Apart from Raven Colvin, Lourdes Myers and Chloe Chicoine from team Purdue took up awards at the Big10

While Lourdes Myers clinched the Defensive Player of the Week award with a career-high nine blocks in four sets, outside hitter of the team Chloe Chicoine received the co-freshman of the Week award this week.

On the other hand, Mac Podraza from team Penn State achieved the setter of the week award as she averaged 11.86 assists per set in the match against Michigan and Wisconsin. Additionally, Andi Jackson from team Nebraska made it to the Co-freshman of the Week award with eight kills, six blocks and a .600 hitting percentage.

As team Purdue’s players achieve top ranks in the championships, they also prove their calibre to take up top ranks in the tournament. Even though they are ranking 4th in the overall rankings, the team is all set to take over the No.2 Wisconsin on November 17th.
