Can the Huskers maintain their dominance without Andi Jackson, or is her absence a ticking time bomb?

Someone’s misery can easily be a boon for others. However, regarding Nebraska’s volleyball prowess, you can rest assured everyone on the team will scurry to make the most of an opportunity even when one of their comrades is struggling to keep up. As the Huskers hosted Iowa at the Bob Devaney Sports Center today, Andi Jackson remained in street clothes due to her knee injury. And yet, her teammates barely made her absence felt.

The Nebraska women’s volleyball squad is on another roll this season like every year. With a 14-1 overall record, the team’s Big10 campaign has also been impeccable so far. A 4-0 conference record would highlight how determined the girls are to continue their winning streak. Naturally, all eyes were on today’s matchup, and Jackson would feel proud to see her posse subduing the Hawkeyes in 3 straight sets.

The Huskers’ emphatic victory was celebrated by the official Big Ten Volleyball account on X. In a post from October 6, the Big10 conference hailed the chart leaders with a sonorous caption that read, “The Huskers remain UNDEFEATED in @bigten play,” while hailing Merritt Beason for her 10 kills in the match. The Outside Hitter also recorded 5 digs. Led by Beason’s ferocity, the Huskers managed to hit .404, while the Hawkeyes looked sluggish with .155. Ensuring Beason wasn’t left alone on the battlefield, Leyla Blackwell stepped up her game with a season-high performance of her own (9 kills with .692 hitting).

Sophomore setter Bergen Reilly racked up 35 assists, once again proving herself to be invaluable for the Nebraska volleyball team. Middle blocker Rebekah Allick also got 9 kills to her name at today’s game, along with 3 blocks. Harper Murray and Lindsay Krause got seven (.353) and five (.833) kills, respectively.

Senior Libero Lexi Rodriguez recorded the match-high 12 digs at the game. Naturally, head coach John Cook was over the moon with his team’s performance, especially with how Reilly helped to maintain connection throughout the match. “I told Bergen we’re gonna run middle. I love how we’re playing as a team, said Cook in a post-match interview. With their latest victory, the Huskers once again proved why they’re considered one of the best programs in the country.

8,667 fans flocked to the arena for today’s game between Iowa and Nebraska. With their vehement support, the Huskers squad recorded its 11th straight victory. However, Jackson missing out on another chance to celebrate was the only downside of the match. The rising hitter has been turning a lot of heads in the collegiate volleyball circuit. In the Huskers’ previous victory over Illinois too, Jackson had to watch the action from the sidelines.

With the sophomore out, San Diego transfer Leyla Blackwell once again got her chance to make a start in a game, and she evidently didn’t disappoint. However, coach Cook isn’t paying much importance to Jackson’s sabbatical from the court. “When we are training we rotate through everybody. We want everybody to come in and feel like they have a chance to play,” the HC said after the match. Blackwell also believes that the team needs to prioritize its goals instead of depending on individual players for victories.
