Can any team match Nebraska's dominance and heart both on and off the volleyball court?

The Huskers are absolutely crushing it! After an intense five-set match against No. 10 Purdue, Nebraska volleyball dominated Rutgers in straight sets, taking the game 25-15, 25-16, and 25-12. They’ve bumped their record to 16-1 and remain unbeaten in Big Ten play, while Rutgers is struggling at 5-12 and 0-6 in the conference. Nebraska showcased their power on offense, hitting an impressive .314, while their defense was rock solid, racking up 51 digs and nine blocks, holding Rutgers to just .083.

Leading the charge was Harper Murray, who tallied a match-high 13 kills alongside 11 digs. Leyla Blackwell, filling in for Rebekah Allick, delivered with nine kills at a stellar .600 hitting percentage and a match-high seven blocks. Bergen Reilly set up 25 assists and notched 13 digs for her own double-double. But it wasn’t just the clean sweep that made this night one to remember—there was something extra special about it!

Right before the game kicked off, Nebraska Volleyball lit up X with an exciting announcement: “It’s Pink Night at The Bob!” This special occasion meant that they would honor some incredible honorary starters who have bravely fought the battle against breast cancer. And they did make it happen! They later tweeted a heartfelt post showcasing the Huskers honoring these warriors, with a powerful caption that read, “We all fight together.”

The starters’ lineup was full of incredible ladies: Kelsey Rengstorf, Kathy Clinton, Joanna Draper, Marlene Wagner, Caroline Hug, Kelly Konen, and Denise Clements. The Huskers really embraced the night, rocking pink sleeves to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, turning the court into a lively sea of pink. But the Nebraska squad isn’t going solo in this mission! Other teams are stepping up too, going all out for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Nebraska Volleyball isn’t the only team making waves for awareness

Joining forces with Nebraska Volleyball, the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers Women’s Volleyball team stepped up to the plate, hosting their annual Breast Cancer Awareness match last Friday, October 11, at 7:00 p.m. against Bard at the bustling Clark Gymnasium. To amplify the spirit of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the team organized a raffle outside the gym, with all proceeds going to Sustain Inspire Survive (SIS).

Fans were even encouraged to join the cause by donating to SIS through QR codes scattered throughout the gym, making it easy for everyone to contribute to a worthy mission. Sustain Inspire Survive is a local organization dedicated to supporting those in the fight against breast cancer. They provide vital financial assistance, ensuring that patients can focus on their recovery without the heavy burden of expenses.

The funds raised help recipients cover essential needs like medical bills, prescriptions, groceries, rent, and utilities, allowing them to navigate their treatment with a little more ease. It’s all about enhancing the quality of life for those facing this challenge, and RIT Volleyball is proud to play a part in this important journey.
