These players undergo intense training schedules before coming up on the volleyball court, leading to the team’s overall success in each match.

Maryland’s volleyball team has defeated top-seed teams in the Big Ten Volleyball Championships this season. Despite performing well in the tournament, Maryland will soon transform its team. As the curtain fell, the squad faced another poignant task of bidding farewell to the graduating seniors.

Honoring the Seniors: A Touching Tribute

Amidst the enthralling showdowns and suspenseful sets, the Maryland volleyball team has purposely taken a heartfelt pause to honor the team’s seniors. These athletes have poured hours of dedication to celebrate the tribute that resonates through the arena. A recent tweet by Maryland Volleyball was captioned, “Last week, we showed our seniors a sneak preview of our Senior Night video. These were their reactions.”

In the same post, Sydney Dowler said, “It’s kinda sad.” She experiences these feelings when shown a view made by the team about the impact seniors made by contributing to the team. There are a total of four volleyball athletes passing out this season. The first on the plate is Laila Ricks, who appeared in 44 sets this season with a remarkable 81 kills and a career-best 1.84 kills in each set. In addition to this, she also recorded a career-best 13 kills and notched eight kills over team Rutgers.

Another remarkable senior defensive specialist, Erin Engel, will depart from the team. Notably, Erin is among the four Terps who played in all of the 32 matches and 108 sets. She tied for the team with an average of 0.29 aces per set and finished with a career-best 31 service aces.

The last two departing farewells are Sam Csire, featuring over a thousand career kills, and Sydney Dowler, who ranks in the top five in career assists. After bidding farewell to the seniors, team Maryland is preparing for the arrival of freshers on the team. But what are Team Maryland’s future plans?

Even though team Maryland’s journey ahead can be bittersweet without the key players performing on the volleyball turf. Eventually, the Big Ten Volleyball Championship 2023 marked the end of the era while signaling a new chapter for Maryland’s volleyball program.
