The Nebraska Huskers Volleyball team asserted themselves as the number one overall seed in the NCAA Tournament after winning the regular season convincingly. They won the Big Ten championship with only one loss in their record of 28-1. Along with this, the Huskers flaunt a conference record of 19-1, as they concluded the Big 10 championships on a great note.
As the No. 1 seed in the 2023 NCAA Division, Women’s Volleyball Championship, the Huskers are poised to host the first and second rounds at the Bob Devaney Sports Center this Friday and Saturday. Their 42nd consecutive tournament appearance commences on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. against Long Island University. However, amid all the winning, they have even gained the advantage of having a ‘seventh man.’

Jessica Coody questioned Lindsay Peterson, “How much of a relief, how exciting is it when you see not just the number one seed but just knowing what that means and you get to play the 1st 2 weekends as long as you keep winning you get to stay right here in front of Husker Nation for those 1st two weekends to get for a chance to go to the final?”
To which Jessica replied, “The seven opportunities to host is a huge advantage, something that we definitely don’t take for granted. ” Jessica further emphasized the priceless support that they get from their supporters and the energizing ambience during these high-pressure moments when each team tries to remain competitive. Their fans could also be called one more strength, like a “7th man”, recognizing the huge crowd and the increased ambience it creates. She stated, “we have maybe a little in extra 7th man in our crowd here and our fans’ support.”

Nebraska claims the top seed in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2016. They’re joined by Stanford, Wisconsin, and Pittsburgh in the top four spots. The Huskers are poised to host an NCAA Regional if they progress past the second round, marking their first hosting since 2016. They face LIU, a team making their 13th NCAA appearance after securing victories in the Northeastern Conference Tournament.

Having participated in five of the last eight NCAA Final Fours and securing national titles in 1995, 2000, and 2006, the Huskers aspire to triumph in this year’s championship held from December 14-17 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
