Can Texas A&M volleyball maintain their dominance, or will their rivals finally dethrone them this season?

It won’t be far-fetched to say that the rivalry between the Texas A&M Aggies and Longhorns is one of the fiercest same-state rivalries in women’s volleyball. It dates it’s time way back before the sport came under NCAA. Before their match on the 26th of September, the Texas Longhorns coach said, “I know it’s going to be an intense match.” This was solely based on the history both teams have against each other.

For Texas A&M Aggies, who have such a huge history, a rivalry so important was bound to be incited at some point. Their Volleyball program started in 1975 when they started competing in the Sunwest Conference. The team would continue their journey there until 1996. During that year, they decided to compete in the Big 12 Conference. Finally, in 2012 they marked a new beginning, reaching new heights as they started to compete under the SEC umbrella. Thus, they’ve been through a lot and are an interesting side to know about.

The Texas A&M play their home games at the Kyle Field Stadium. The stadium was established in 1905 and is also the home of their football team. The stadium is named after Edwin Jackson Kyle, who was the dean of agriculture at the time. He had donated a 400×400 foot area, which was given to him for horticultural purposes.

The stadium has gone through numerous redevelopments since the 1920s, with the most recent one being in 2015. It expanded the seating capacity of the college to 102,733, making it one of the largest stadiums to host collegiate football. Thus, it is a very historic stadium apt for a team like Texas A&M, who have been competing for a long time.
