The Missouri Tigers Women’s Volleyball Team recently ended their 2023 NCAA Championship campaign. The team from the Midwest got bested by the top-seeded team of Nebraska Huskers in the second round of the NCAA playoffs. With the end of the road of their 2023 season, it is goodbye time for a couple of Missouri players as well.
The Missouri Tigers recently celebrated the conclusion of the collegiate careers of two of its volleyball players. A social media upload showcased the tribute given to the retiring players of Missouri, as they depart from their college’s program post a glimmering season. A fitting sendoff was given, and how.

Mizzou Volleyball recently uploaded a tweet on its official X account, bidding farewell to its exiting players. The tweet carried the caption, “Concluding their careers on the biggest of stages. Congratulations to Lauren Forbes and Dilara Gedikoglu on amazing collegiate volleyball careers!! Thank you both for all you’ve done for our program. #MIZ @NCAAVolleyball.”

Lauren Forbes and Dilara Gedikoglu contributed significantly to Missouri’s regular as well as postseason journey. Gedikoglu is a graduate student who played the outside hitter position for her team, while Forbes was a junior who was the libero of the Tigers. Their postseason game against the Nebraska Huskers was their last, with which they will be ending their collegiate volleyball careers.
Dilara Gedikoglu played just one season with Missouri but amassed a huge 309 kills and 262 digs throughout the season. On the other hand, libero Lauren Forbes secured 496 digs in three seasons. While their efforts couldn’t see their team through the barrier of the Nebraska Huskers, they were up against the top-seeded team after all. In fact, the Nebraska Huskers have looked strong the entire season and have lost only one game.

The Round of 16 and the dominance of the Nebraska Huskers
The Nebraska Huskers are aggressively running atop their victory chariot as they head into the regional finals match. So far, the only team that has bested Nebraska is the venerated Wisconsin Badgers, who will have to win against Penn State to qualify further. On the other hand, other dominating powerhouses like Texas, Stanford, Orgon, Arkansas, and Pittsburgh also have tough matchups in the next round.

Due to their top-seeded position, the Nebraska Huskers have the advantage of going against a lower seed. Moreover, if they keep winning, all their upcoming matches will be home-court matches, where Nebraska has a flawless record.
