The December 17 finale crowned Texas Longhorns with the 2023 NCAA Division 1 Women’s Volleyball title in the same arena that once flouted their chances. The 2009 occasion saw the Texas Longhorns digest the defeat in the title run in the Tampa arena. But that day, the head coach Jerritt Elliott grieved but didn’t wallow. This time his team came back stronger against the fan-favorite Nebraska Huskers.

However, the resounding scoreline would show a straight sweep by the dominating Longhorns. However, to trounce a champion like the Huskers, the Texas Longhorns needed more than just an astounding scoreline. After the match, NCAA Women’s Volleyball’s X-account joined the crowd to curate the lore.

The NCAA Women’s Volleyball’s X-handle was astonished by how skilled the Texas Longhorns teammates were at creating aces. In Sunday’s final, those sovereigns in orange shaded 12 aces against the Nebraska Huskers. The caption of the X-post framed that with an ovation, “Alongside the dominant performance from @TexasVolleyball yesterday, the Longhorns now hold the title of the most team aces in a championship match”.

Reportedly, the obvious win against the Nebraska Huskers came with the 12th aces in the game. However, Asjia O’Neal scored five out of those 12 aces. Four of those came in a row in the second half. That was enough to put a nail in the Huskers’ dream of clinching the title. The skipper cum setter, Ella Swindle, appeared as her partner in crime as she scored two aces. However, that wasn’t the only record that Longhorns made that night.
