Initiating her journey in middle school, Rutherford acknowledges the role of her sister. “I only started playing because it was something my sister had done, and she’s just a role model for me,” she remarked. Her older sister, Kenedi, is two years older than Regan. She further adds, “I was really into soccer and track before volleyball. She really pushed me, and I’m thankful for that every day.”
Receiving her first collegiate letter in the 14 year, Regan ultimately realized her potential. With the zeal “to be the best at everything I do,” she began to enthusiastically hone her techniques and skills. She reckons, “The recruiting process, I would say, was overwhelming.” However, she has the ultimate advice for young players who are dealing with similar pressure, it is “just to take your time.”
She encourages them to avoid rushing and “find out the chemistry of the team… what the bench is doing, how the team interacts with each other.” The ultimate goal is to find the right team that will keep the players happy and content. Happiness is the ultimate pursuit.
