Megan Rapinoe, the soccer legend, and Sue Bird, the four-time Olympic basketball player, are an ideal fit for each other. They both are ambitious individuals. However, the other side of their lives is filled with passion, warmth, and support as seen in the unwavering togetherness and balance they bring in their relationship.

Rapinoe and Bird met backstage at a photoshoot for Rio Olympics 2016. Bird described her first impression of Rapinoe as a ‘total dork.’ In 2017, the couple started dating publicly. There has been no looking back since then. In an interview, the power couple shared about their togetherness in different aspects including the ailments they share.

Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird share some similarities

Megan and Sue are world-class athletes with several accolades to their names. The couple got engaged in 2020. In connection with working out together during the quarantine phase, Rapinoe said, “We have quite a bit of overlap.” Megan (37) and Sue (41) can be considered aged in the world of sports, and hence also share the same ailments. “We have some of the same ailments—the lower back hip thing,” she continued.

Furthermore, the soccer star also said that it was good to have a workout buddy to break things up. Just as everyone else, Rapinoe and Bird stayed at home. But they tried to stay as active as they could.

They went out and did some sprints in the morning besides normal things like visiting the grocery store. Naturally, to beat the boredom, they chose one of the more workable things to do: watch Netflix.

They maintain a good balance

With the limited resources they had, the pair tried to get creative. They worked out on Peloton. They also had a TRX and different bands and weights and tried to make it work. Furthermore, Bird said, “We have a good balance.” She continued that people tend to assume that athletes love working out.

Bird clarified that they love to play games, but working out is just as challenging as for anyone else.

Having a workout partner is a great idea to keep going especially in the middle of the workouts when you lack the motivation to continue. “I’m having a bad day not motivated, Megan will say, “Nope, let’s go.” Sometimes it’s the other way around.” Bird added.
