Megan Rapinoe Gives Fiancé Sue Bird the Ultimate Title As She Plays Her Career’s Last Ever Match

Megan Rapinoe, the force behind the momentous success of the US Women’s National Soccer Team in the recent past has her heart for the millions of her fans. But most importantly her beloved fiancé Sue Bird, the basketball champion. Megan and Sue, often touted as the power couple, have shown solidarity in each other’s successes and decisions throughout their journey together. 

To mark the memorable, last match of the WNBA star’s career, Megan shared a post on Instagram. It might just be a picture and a few words in the caption, but it speaks volumes. It is a reminder of tonnes of memories and moments the basketball giant has created during her illustrious sports career.

Why is Megan Rapinoe right?

Sue Bird, a five-time Olympic gold medallist and an outstanding athlete, has several championships, titles, and victories to her name. She was named the USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year in 2021. 19 seasons, eight-time All-WNBA, thirteen-time WNBA-All-Star, four-time WNBA Champion, five-time Olympic gold-medallist, and WNBA all-time Assists Leader are a few of the superwoman’s numerous achievements.

“The Greatest to ever do it. I am so proud of you.”, wrote Bird’s number one super fan, Megan in her Instagram post.

The little girl in the red jersey is a reminder of Sue’s journey. A grand undertaking to get inspired and understand the spirit of being a sports person. And now, retiring at the age of 41 is the 5 ft 9 Olympic basketball player who steered her team to victory after victory and won millions of hearts.

There are several reasons she is one of the greatest athletes of all time. Her mind-blowing skills while hitting a game-winning pointer with only a few seconds left, making winning jump shots, etc. Not to forget her powerful comebacks after surgery.

Megan and Sue, a tale of support

Besides gold medals, Rio Olympics is special for another reason for the power couple. The soccer champion and basketball star began dating in 2016 after a meeting as if decided by destiny. They found great friends in each other. Sue made a huge move in 2017 by declaring two things when she said, “I’m g*y. Megan’s my girlfriend. … These aren’t secrets to people who know me,” She was very proud of accepting herself and believed that’s the best way to be.

While Megan calls Sue the greatest, it reminds one of what Bird said about her during a controversy in 2019, ” You just cannot shake that girl. She’s going to do her thing, at her own damn speed, to her own damn rhythm, and she’s going to apologize to exactly NO ONE for it.“

They both have shown enormous support to each other. Rapinoe said in an interview that she loved being a WAG(an acronym for Wife and Girlfriends of athletes). She also added that there was no room for jealousy about each other’s careers.
