Megan Rapinoe faced some major changes in her career back in June. As a result of this, she seemed to be having a dilemma. As a 37-year-old soccer legend who has been on the USWNT roster for some time now, her coach seemed to have planned things differently for her this season. 37 is considered to be a year in the latter half of a soccer player’s career. Add to it the recent injuries Rapinoe has faced, it will seem like a change would do her good.
Coach Vlatko Andonovski wanted Megan to shift into more of a mentorship role for the younger players of the team. Megan, no doubt, was excited about the new set of responsibilities. Contrary to expectations, she was rather glad the burdens were loosened. While all this was happening, she took time out to thank her partner, Sue Bird, for being her greatest source of support along the journey.

Megan Rapinoe says Bird is the “greatest gift ever”
Megan, who was standing at crossroads in her journey as a star soccer player and poster child of the USWNT, did not forget to thank her fiance. Her fiance, Sue Bird is an American Basketball Player.
Rapinoe recollected how it was only Bird who was able to catch the underlying sense of her recurrent rantings. Both the athletes recognized that they shared mutual feelings as well as issues and helped to untie that mental knot together.
Rapinoe was extremely grateful to Bird for such sensitivity. She said, “I think being able to have someone who intimately knows what it means when I say, ‘I want to retire right now I’m so frustrated,’ it may not actually mean that,”
The soccer legend also added, “..being able to be there for her, and her be there for me, is the greatest gift ever.” They seem to just understand each other the right way!

Whenever enthusiasts think of a power couple in sports, they probably are going to think about this pair. Megan and Sue first met each other during the shooting for the Rio Olympics. The duo still joke about how awkward their first meeting was with Megan completely goofing the situation.

But, the couple did make their relationship public via social media in 2017. The couple had also announced their engagement news in a similar fashion which had good wishes rolling from around the world.
