After the women’s soccer team won the World Cup in 2019, Megan had publicly announced that she would not go to the White House if President Trump invited them. This statement caused a lot of stir in the media. Revealing her thoughts on the situation, she said, “The only moment where I was like ‘Argh!’ was when I thought: ‘Is this going to affect the team in some way?’ I didn’t want that to happen.”

In an interview with Guardian when asked whether she was scared to go against Trump she said, “I wouldn’t say that we’re anti-authority, but when there’s a person who is abusing their power or manipulating people, whether it’s a teacher when I was younger or Donald Trump now, there’s nothing that fires me up and grinds my gears more. I was just like: ‘No. That’s not happening.’”

Megan’s fight for equality
Ever since Megan Rapinoe rose to fame, she has used her voice for the betterment of society. Megan has actively spoken about gender discrimination and other social issues. Through her activism and fight for social justice, she has inspired many people to speak out for their rights. Hollywood celebrity Natalie Portman revealed in an interview that Megan’s activism helped her have meaningful conversations with her son.

Rapinoe’s lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation garnered international attention. Megan and her teammates alleged gender-based discrimination by the federation and demanded equal pay for their matches. However, the final decision for the lawsuit is still pending.
