Megan Rapinoe, Who Once Called Out Draymond Green, Appreciated Stephen Curry for Using His Power to Support Women’s Equality: “You Don’t Have to Drop Everything and Become an Activist”

The professional soccer player, Megan Rapinoe, never stepped back when fighting against the wrongs. Voicing issues ranging from racism to gender discrimination, she has always been outspoken. Megan’s bold and courageous persona has always been one of her most admired qualities. 

Due to her strong opinions and views, Megan also had arguments with several sportspersons, Draymond Green being one of them. Nevertheless, NBA superstar Stephen Curry didn’t fail to receive words of appreciation from the soccer player. 

Megan Rapinoe schooled Draymond Green and appreciated Stephen Curry

During their fight for equal pay, the team received opposition along with support. Golden State Warriors’ dominating forward Draymond Green was on the opposition party initially. According to him, instead of their pay, women should rather focus on the growth of the sport. To no surprise, that didn’t go in alignment with Megan’s thoughts and initiative.

The star soccer player came back with a thrashing reply. That alone changed Green’s take on the bone of contention. Eventually, he switched the team and joined hands with Megan Rapinoe, saying, “At the end of the day, what Megan wants and what I want is the same thing.”

According to Megan, if one has the platform, they should utilize it properly and address issues that are concerning. Following the same line, she appreciated what Stephen Curry did. The NBA star, who fathers two daughters and a son, took a gigantic step for the entire women community and wrote an article that was published in The Players’ Tribune. 

“I think just him even writing that article like that, I think people underestimate how impactful just saying it could be,” said the soccer icon in the podcast Runnin’ Plays. “You don’t have to drop everything and become an activist like you can be impactful in your own life”

Besides that, Stephen once received a letter from a 9-year-old girl, who wanted a pair of Under Armour Icon Curry 5 sneakers. Unfortunately, the company only produced shoes for boys. Hoping that the athlete would take the necessary steps, she mentioned this issue in the letter. Stephen made sure to take care of it and wrote a letter in response. Currently, there are shoes of the same kind under the girls’ section too.  

Megan and her fight for equal pay

The athlete has been associated with several disputes, one of which was the right to equal pay. It was fought by Megan and her team against the U.S Soccer Federation. Finally, in May 2022, their hard work paid off. The United States Soccer Federation announced its new agreement, which promoted equal pay for the team. 

“Thank you to so many who have come before and who are here now. Incredibly proud today,” tweeted Megan Rapinoe in response to Becky Sauerbrunn’s tweet.
