“Death Threats, Threats of Violence, and Horrible Language”: Megan Rapinoe Revealed the Extreme Outrage She Faced Due to Her Kneeling Incident in 2016

Megan Rapinoe consistently garners media attention with her impeccable work. She does everything persuasively, from scoring goals to putting the doubters in their place. Rapinoe has always been a strong supporter of equality and human rights. 

From time to time, she has replied to the harsh critiques about her being a vocalist on social issues. But, despite slamming them, she gets surrounded by more backlashes. 

Megan Rapinoe witnessed the harsh reality 

During a game against Thailand in Columbus, Megan kneeled as a protest against discrimination. Describing her POV, Rapinoe penned a note in her biography, One Life.

Megan stated, “The morning after I knelt in Chicago, a quick glance at my social media feeds confirmed the scale of my misapprehension.”

Rapinoe added, “Dan’s heads-up the night before had been a tiny taste of what was to come: people were mad. Whoa, were they pissed? When I was younger, I had labored under the delusion that dating men might be a part of my future. This felt like a bigger miscalculation.”

“It wasn’t just the volume of outrage; it was the sheer hysterical pitch of it. I had been expecting a few chin-stroking editorials or a hashtag at most. Instead, there were death threats, threats of violence, and horrible language…”

The walking protest also added how she started getting death threats and violence against her, and she initially got habituated to hearing them. In addition, there was her former fan who admitted to her that he wanted to burn her shirt. All these things strongly horrified Megan. However, she knew her way out of that mess. 

How did Megan handle critiques?

The Olympic gold medallist is renowned for playing a significant role as a person who manages everything flawlessly. Her advocacy for gender equality brought a social issue that had been long ignored. Since the beginning of her career, she has showcased her bold personality and her strong sense of social awareness. 

Once, the soccer star addressed the critiques and spoke about her patriotic feelings. But unfortunately, she frequently draws the attention of trolls due to some of her strong opinions.
