The baton has been finally handed over. After a 16-day high-octane sporting festival in the center of Paris, the Summer Olympics have now officially shifted to Los Angeles, which will proudly present the Games in 2028. Simon Biles and Tom Cruise have accepted the official flag. But the flame of Olympia is yet to be extinguished. The reason is that 2024 Paris will now concentrate on hosting another sporting event, the Summer Paralympic Games.
So the fans should brace themselves, as after witnessing three weeks of athletic superiority, they still have two weeks of fun on the cards. But remember, there will be a change of events between the 2024 Paris Olympics and the Paralympic Games. Let’s have a sneak peek at those changes.

Wrestling within the Paralympic Games is an interesting story. It was promoted only at the 1980 and 1984 Summer Paralympic Games. Since then, the sport has only faced rejection. Other than that, handball, golf, and equestrian will not find a place in the index of the upcoming Games. Water sports like water polo and surfing will not be featured either. And it will be the second Summer Paralympic Games where sailing will be a miss. This time, the IOC added breaking at the 2024 Paris Olympics. But in the Paralympics, the authorities didn’t follow the same suit. So it will be another addition to the rejection list.

The 2024 Paris Paralympic Games will have certain presents in store. One of them will be blind football. The same venue at the foot of the Eiffel Tower that held beach volleyball will be the venue for the newly added sport. Still, some sports will not get the entry ticket this time as well. Basketball, lawn bowls, snooker, and dartchery are those. Along with that, athletes who have a history of suffering from cerebral palsy will not be counted for the football 7-a-side. The restriction came down after the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games and will continue this time. Yet, several sports are there that have yet to cut the Summer Paralympic Games.
What’s your perspective on:
Should the Paralympics include all Olympic sports to ensure true inclusivity?
Have an interesting take?
Gymnastics comes ahead in the pack. The sport of tumbling and balancing has yet to make an entry in the 76-year history of this sporting event. Marathon, the ancient sport, has never graced the field of the Paralympic Games. The streak will continue on the 2024 Paris occasion too. However, since its formation in 1989, the International Paralympic Committee has presented the event in a new format, causing seismic changes. So in the future, several sports might be added to the list of Paralympic Games to decrease the gap between the Summer Olympics and the Summer Paralympic Games. Golf has a bright prospect among those sports. Till then, let’s cheer for another victorious tale of endurance.
