Team USA’s Paris Olympics dream, at least in one event, looms over uncertainty after a bizarre incident during the men’s 4x400m heat 1 in the ongoing Bahamas Relays. This has propelled the 2022 World Championships gold medalist Champion Allison to criticism from the track and field fans.

However, it seems like Allison isn’t too fazed by the reactions on social media. The 25-year-old lashed out at those calling the team’s Paris ticket loss a “rookie mistake.” With the biggest games just months away, the Bahamas Relays were a seriously important tournament that would secure Team USA at least five spots.

Allison looked pretty frustrated with all the comments and his latest X post vented his frustration with the caption “I ain’t know rookie mistake now.” The now-deleted post accentuates his feelings further with an NSFW image – which is not appropriate for all ages and comes with a viewer’s discretion advice.

The post underscores his mental state in the face of such a countrywide denunciation. Allison was the third athlete to race for the USA in the event. While waiting to take over the relay baton from Christopher Bailey, Allison tried to exchange his position with his Japanese opponent which was allotted to the athletes by the tournament officials. His action resulted in the entire USA team being disqualified.

The Bahamas Relays had plenty of other things to compensate for Allison’s ordeal. Anchored by Noah Lyles, the USA beat Germany and Italy to win first place in the men’s 4x100m relay, while Tamari Davis and Gabby Thomas also contributed significantly to the country’s win in the women’s 4x100m relay race. After a thrilling set of performances at last year’s World Championships and at the Tom Jones Memorial, Lyles’ claims about usurping Usain Bolt’s throne don’t look like something too far-fetched now.

Lyles looks pretty comfortable with where he is at the moment. And it’s not just the Bahamas Relays that showed the prowess of the American sprinters on a global stage. Now, the public gaze turns to Oregon as Eugene prepares to host the US Track and Field Olympic Trials on June 21 – 30, 2024 to determine the final names who will be representing the country on the grand stage in July.
