As the fervor for witnessing the track and field stars live hits a crescendo, spectators are eagerly anticipating the electrifying showdown at the highest level. But, with the conclusion of the World Athletics Championships in 2023, the prospect of witnessing such exhilarating sprints seems to be reserved solely for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics tracks.

However, the anticipation has ground to a sudden halt with the upcoming Prefontaine Classic now slated to kick off from May 25th. Amidst the unexpected turn of events, there’s a silver lining that promises to reignite the excitement.

To share this ecstatic news among the spectators, Citius Mag took it to their official Twitter account and posted a couple of pictures of the top three athletes participating at the event. Alongside the pictures, they penned, “Folks, we’ve got another rematch. All three World Championship medalists from last year’s 800m final in Budapest will go head-to-head-to-head at the Prefontaine Classic on May 25th.”

The major reason for the popularity of the event is undoubtedly last year’s world medalists participating. The championship will feature Mary Moraa, who not only secured the gold medal but also achieved an impressive personal best of 1:56:03 at Budapest last year. She will be receiving tough competition from Keely Hodgkinson.

Keely is no less than Mary; she sparks on tracks with her third consecutive world’s silver medal by clocking 1:56:34. Adding a twist to the tale, Olympic Champion Athing Mu, who secured bronze with 1:56:97, will also be vying for the same spot as Keely and Mary. Interestingly, this is not the first time when world champions are getting “head-to-head-to-head“.

A few weeks ago, the trio faced off at the Diamond League finals at Eugene. While Mu accomplished the gold while breaking her own US record with a blistering time of 1:54:97, Hodgkinson too made waves by lowering her own record to 1:55:19. Now, all eyes are on Eugene for a little preview of the greatness that awaits in Paris. But, it’s not just the athletes anticipating the rematch.
