Recently, Track and Field Reports posted a picture of Asafa Powell running, announcing his grand comeback. It also captioned the wonderful news as “Asafa Powell comes out of retirement and returns to compete on the track on May 21st at the Bermuda Grand Prix ”

In his 20-year career, Asafa Powell first emerged as a star in the public in 2005. That year, the Jamaican athlete created a world record by finishing the 100 m race in just 9.77 seconds. However, this was just the start of Powell’s glorious career. In 2006, he went on to lower his time record by 9.74 seconds at the Diamond League meet in Gateshead, U.K. Powell held the record for three consecutive years until Usain Bolt came in with an unbeatable record of 9.69 seconds in 2008.

Nevertheless, Powell also dominated the World Athletics final for four years from 2004 to 2008. His career’s last race came in 2016 when he won an Olympic gold medal in the 4x100m.

However, on 23rd November 2023, Powell took to his Twitter to share a signing-off note. It read, “Chapter 40 and retired, a new phase of life.” He added, “As I say goodbye to the sport, I’d like to thank all my loyal fans that stood by me my entire career and even now. I am also thankful for the opportunities the sport has given me.”

However, now, he is again set to enter the running tracks. Let’s wait to see how it turns out.
