Usain Bolt once said, “A lot of legends, a lot of people, have come before me. But this is my time.” And even seven years after hanging up his track spikes, his name still reigns supreme in the world of track and field. Back in the summer of 2009, Bolt set jaw-dropping world records in the 100m (9.58 seconds) and 200m (19.19 seconds) sprints, and no one has come close to beating those times even fifteen years later.
With his signature ‘to di world‘ stance, iconic status, and eight Olympic gold medals, he’s undeniably a legend. But at home, it’s a different story. Despite being the ‘Fastest Man Alive‘, Bolt’s kids are blissfully unaware that their dad is a track legend.

In an interview with Esquire Middle East, Usain Bolt, peeled back the layers, opening up about his life off track. During the chat, Bolt had just 40 minutes before switching from track legend to doting dad, and interviewer Matthew Priest asked him, “Do your kids understand who their dad is?”
Bolt’s response was hilariously honest: “Not really. I’ve spoke to other athletes about this and what I’ve noticed with kids is that no matter how good or successful a sports person their parents are, they just don’t look up to you that way.” However, this is a common issue among celebrities.
Hilary Duff’s son, Luca, found out who his mom was from friends at school, and Dwayne Johnson’s daughter refused to believe her dad was Maui from Disney’s “Moana.” Bolt and his girlfriend Kasi Bennett have three kids: Olympia Lightning (4), and twin boys, Thunder and Saint Leo (3). They’re still too young to grasp their dad’s legendary status.
But the ever-cheeky Bolt hopes that “by the time that my kids are old enough to properly understand track and field, I will still have my world records, and so they will have to put some respect on my name!” And in true Usain Bolt fashion, did you know he once cheekily vowed not to have any more children after his twins?
Bolt speaks about being a father
Usain Bolt has made it clear that he’s done having kids after welcoming his twins and daughter Olympia. In an interview with MailOnline in 2021, he quipped, “That’s me, I’m finished – I don’t want any more now. Being a dad keeps me busy, but I wouldn’t say fit. It keeps me busy and my hands are always full.“

He humorously added that having twins isn’t as fun as people say, and he was looking forward to seeing them growing up. In his recent chat with Esquire Middle East, Bolt joked about how having twins sped up his plan to have three kids. He also quipped, “I’m also glad that they are so close in age, it means that they’ll all be off to college at the same time, and I can get my life back!”
This glimpse into Bolt’s family life shows that, beyond the glitz and glamour, his children are truly the center of his world. He hopes his world records will still stand by the time his kids are old enough to understand their significance. However, with the Paris Olympics on the horizon, do you think his goal will be realized? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
