The second day of the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024 was unquestionably a day that belonged to fresh faces. Sandi Morris and Katie Moon took the backseat when their British opponent, Molly Caudery, displayed true grit in winning the gold medal in the pole vault event. The same applied at the 400m event. The reigning Olympic champion Karsten Warholm had to taste the defeat from Alexander Doom. However, the 60m event in the women’s category raised commotion as the final flaunted some of the best names in the lineup. However, Julien Alfred took 6.98 seconds to humble those stellar home bodies and put her country’s name on the World Athletic Indoor Championships’ map. But in the vicinity, the track and field fans witnessed some luminaries outperform themselves in registering their Paris Olympics chances. 

Grant Holloway did what he could do better and has been doing for a decade- to keep his 60mH crown unchallenged. This time, he went further and almost replaced his world record. However, Femke Bol did not mind in clearing the 400m world indoor record in the women’s category. Elle St. Pierre gifted the USA its first world indoor gold in the 3000m event in the women’s category. Josh Kerr’s determination fetched him the world indoor title in the 3000m event. But on day 3, the American challenge would set to go deep. 

Nikki Hiltz and Hobbs Kessler will appear in the 1500m events. In the long jump, Tara Davis-Woodhall is set to repeat her success. In the pole vault, the popular face and ephemeral champion, Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis, will take his guard, wearing Swedish color. So let’s resume the day with lots of hope and excitation.

Afternoon session: 

Athletes are in the last session of Glasgow World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024. The events have witnessed whistling off.

19:00: Pole Vault Men’s Final 

Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis is staging on the first position jointly after attempting the 5.65 mark in the first attempt.

Sam Kendricks and Christopher Nilsen are also in the first position with the same marking. However, for Mondo, the stakes are high as he is on the way to defending his gold medal from the Belgrade edition.

Kendricks is leading as his pole vault has gone for the 5.75 mark.

Mondo Duplantis is showing a disappointing start in the event. The Olympic champion is way below the top position.

Duplantis is on the roll now, with a jump of 5.85.

Mondo Duplantis is quite on his route to find his mojo again. He’s now on the top rung with the evening’s best 5.95 mark.

Armand Duplantis has reached the 6.05 mark to stay higher than the rest. He is almost at the end of the gold medal route now.

Despite not-so-eclectic attempts, Mondo Duplantis repeated his success as the 2024 World Indoor Athletics Championships gold went to him.

19:15: Long Jump Women’s Final 

Monae Nicholls is currently sitting at the top after completing the first attempts of 6.75.  Her American teammate, Tara Davis Woodhall is in the second position after a 6.73 jump.

Woodhall is in the first position after the second round. She is already a big shiftover from her last year’s overall movements.

This year, her best jump was for the 7.18 mark. So plenty could be expected from her in Glasgow as she is already looking for a successful return to the Olympics.

Monae Nicholls has regained the leading position again from Tara Davis Woodhall.

Woodhall is steadily chasing her best foot as her latest attempt has touched the 6.93 mark.

The fight has now turned to take place between the American compatriots as Woodhall and Nicholls are way ahead of the others. Woodhall has attempted the 7.07 mark.

Tara Davis-Woodhall has clinched the long jump gold medal in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Monae Nicholls has followed her in the second position.

19:40: 60 Meters Hurdles Women’s Semi-Final 

Devyne Charlton is in the process of utilizing the situation in the absence of American arch-rival Tia Jones. The first heat is on the move in the semifinal.

7.72 has been her timing in the heat to extend herself in the final. Pia Skrzyszowska has come in second with the personal best timing, 7.78 seconds.

Defending World Indoor Champion Cyrenea Samba-Mayela is in the second heat for finding her through in the final.

She has just taken 0.01 seconds more than Charlton to enter the final. Her 7.73 now become the national record. The veteran, Sarah Lavin has remained in the second position in the second heat to find her entry in the final.

Masai Russell has qualified for the final, defeating Charisma Taylor in the third heat.

20:15: 4×400 Meters Relay Men’s Final 

Noah Lyles is lurking at the fence line, hinting at his inclusion in the relay event.

Noah Lyles has replaced Trevor Bassitt in the American relay team in the final.

At halfway, the USA squad is leading, before the Belgians.

Belgium has successfully defended its gold medal from Belgrade. The USA is in the second position.

Alexander Doom has drawn the blood again after defeating Karsten Warholm. In the last relay, he has expanded the gap with the US sprinter in securing the gold medal.

20:30: 4×400 Meters Relay Women’s Final

The USA is facing Belgium again but in the relay event in the women’s category.

The Femke Bol-starred team is in the leading position right now.

The Dutch squad has won the race as Femke Bol has cruised to the victory. The USA team is in the runner-up place.

A tough fight was on the place as all three podium-finishing teams completed the race in the sub-3:25 category.

20:45: 1000 Meters Men’s Heptathlon 

Sander Skotheim is en route to glory as he has topped in the event. Simon Ehammer is quite far away from the first position.

Eventually, the final standing stopped these two athletes. Ehammer’s enormous point of 6418 handed him the world-leading status and the gold medal.

21:00: 60 Meters Hurdles Women’s Final 

Devynne Charlton has made a world record of 7.65 timing to humble the defending champion, Cyrena Samba-Mayela in the final.

21:10: 800 Meters Men’s Final 

Mariano Garcia is pushing Bryce Hoppel to defend his gold medal from Belgrade.

Bryce Hoppel has handed the American audiences a moment of rejoicing as he has earned the gold medal. His timing has gone to 1:44.92, before Andreas Kramer. Mariano Garcia could earn the sixth position.

21:20: 800 Meters Women’s Final 

Jemma Reekie had to be satisfied with the second position in front of the home crowd as Tsige Duguma earned Ethiopia its first world indoor gold medal.

21:30: 1500 Meters Men’s Final 

Hobbs Kessler will be the best chance to give the USA another gold medal this evening.

He is already leaving 2x World champion Samuel Tefera behind to stay ahead of the pack.

Geordie Beamish has won the race. However, the American duo of Cole Hocker and Hobbs Kessler have grabbed the subsequent two places in the leaderboard.

The 3:36.54 timing of the Kiwi athlete has stemmed to be his personal best. However, the world champion Samuel Tefera has slipped to the seventh place ultimately.

21:45: 1500 Meters Women’s Final 

Nikki Hiltz is up against the Ethiopian squad of phenoms in the event right now.

Hiltz has been able to breach the Ethiopian resistance in the event. She has claimed the silver medal with the personal best timing, 4:02.32.

Her American teammate Emily Mackay has grabbed the third position with her personal best timing as well.

However, the first place has gone to Freweyni Hailu, the Ethiopian who won the indoor 800m silver in Belgrade 2 years ago.

The USA has solidified its leading regime in the Glasgow World Athletics Indoor Championships. However, New Zealand has lifted itself to the third position to show a new hope.

Here’s the end to the 3-day of continuous track and field actions. Next, the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships will take place in Torun Arena Sports Hall in Poland.

Morning session :

10:05 am: 60 Meters Hurdles Men’s Final 

Simon Ehammer and Makenson Gletty are now the forerunners in the event. This hurdles part is going to add a large point to the overall point section.

Simon Ehammer took 7.62 seconds to keep his first place fortified. The joy is visible in his eyes right now.

10:18 am: Triple Jump Women’s Final 

Keturah Orji and Jasmine Moore from the USA are going to start the event on a high note. Both athletes have loads of achievements at the Pan Am and NCAA levels.

Keturah Orji and Jasmine Moore started their movements by eyeing the sub-14 category.

Thea Lafond from the Commonwealth of Dominica, has breached into the sub-14 category, with better markings.

The American Pan Am numero unos are taking back steps as Leyaniz Perez Hernandez is in the top position now.

Thea LaFond has just marked her lifetime best, 15.01, the world-leading jump presently.

Keturah Orji has now slipped to the fourth position. She will have to go bigger than 15.01 to keep the scoreboard active, favoring her chance.

Thea LaFond has won the gold medal at the event. Keturah Orji has stopped at the fourth position.

However, Cuban participant Leyanis Perez Hernandez has just come behind the Dominican national record holder to earn the silver.

Ana Peleteiro-Compaore has bagged the bronze medal.

10: 25 am: 60 Meters Hurdles Women’s Heats 

It’s time for the first heat in the event. Nadine Visser has kept the Dutch flag high as she’s earned the top finish in the event. She has a bronze medal from the Birmingham World Athletics Indoor Championships in the same event.

Christina Clemons is taking her guard in the absence of Tia Jones from the USA in the heat 2.

Pia Skrzyszowska from Poland proved herself better than Christina Clemmons and Solenn Compper as she’s earned the top position. Clemmons paced herself to end the race in 7.96 seconds to get the qualification. Tia Jones could not earn her selection due to an injury issue.

Her absence is a big factor as a few weeks ago she equalled the indoor 60m hurdles record.

Devynne Charlton is in the heat 3. In fact, she is the current record holder in the 60m indoor race.

She ended the heat in the timeframe of 7.93 seconds, taking first place.

The heat 4 is currently streaming on. Sarah Lavin has taken the top finish with a clocking of 7.90. The time marks her personal best in front of the worshipping crowd.

Masai Russell took the top spot in the heat 5, by taking 7.89 seconds.

In heat 6, Cyrena Samba-Mayela, the defending champion, earned her qualification for the semi-final by completing her race in 7.81 seconds. This is her season-best timing. Just a few days ago, she shared a snippet of her run in the Jimmy Carnes Invitational on Instagram. Her magic run unfolded there in full startling.

11:10 am:  4×400 meters Relay Men’s Heats 

Belgium and the USA are going neck-to-neck in the first heat of the relay event.

The USA has qualified for the semi-final with the top position in the heat. Belgium took the second position. But the Kenyan relay team created the African record to stay in contention. However, the event witnessed some unwanted debates.

The second heat of the relay event is going on. Czech Republic relay member has dropped the baton to see the team missing the bout.

The Netherlands and Portugal have qualified from the heat. The Czech Republic has lost its chance even after remaining in an excellent position for the larger share of the event. But the baton-drop has disqualified the team.

The USA relay squad has posted their rebuttal in facing the mid-track chaos and in handing the baton.

11:15 am: Pole Vault Men’s Heptathlon

Sven Johnson is currently holding the top position. Simon Ehammer is carrying his glee as well. He is just behind the Dutch athlete.

A lot of movement is going on the leaderboard. Ehammer and Markus Rooth are battling each other to keep the top podium under hold.

Ehammer has solidified his ruling by successfully 5 meters in the pole vault event.

Makenson Gletty is building his comeback little by little. He is in the fifth position now but with the same mark, 5.00, equalling with Simon Ehammer.

As of now, Ehammer is comfortably sitting at the top level. But more actions are yet to come.

11:38 am: 4×400 Meters Relay Women’s Heats 

The USA relay team in the women’s category is now facing the highly motivated Dutch team in the first heat.

However, dismissing any doubt, the Irish team is moving ahead with the first position.

Femke Bol is in the Dutch team and currently, the team is in the third position after the USA pack.

The highly anticipated heat ended as the Dutch women took the top position, keeping the USA squad in the second position.

 

Noah Lyles’s girlfriend, Junelle Bromfield, is in the relay team as Jamaica is battling in the second heat.

Great Britain & NI and Jamaica have qualified from the heat for the semifinal bout. The former team has created the national record to land the victory.

Sharlene Mawdsley registered herself as having the fastest split among both the heat events. In the end, she has narrated her share of motivation in making history.

11:55 am: High Jump Men’s Final 

Vernon Turner is readily holding the American chance in the event. He is jointly standing on the top with six other participants.

The crowd in the leaderboard has just withered. Now Vernon Turner has moved to the south slightly. However, Oleh Doroshchuk is leading the pack with a 2.20 m mark.

Hamish Kerr is extending his challenge as the New Zealander has moved to the second position right now. This year he has participated in four titles, ending with the top-podium finish in each case.

Hamish Kerr is now having his time. With a 2.28m leap, he has pushed Oleh Doroshchuk to the second position.

Shelby Mcewen has joined Hamish Kerr in keeping the scoreboard with having 2.28m leap. Sanghyeok Woo is pairing with them to defend his gold medal earned at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade.

Sanghyeok Woo could not defend his gold title from the last occasion as this time, he ended up achieving the bronze medal.

Hamish Kerr bagged the gold medal and Shelby Mcewen came the second.

In his final attempt, Hamish leaped for the world-leading 2.36 mark.
