Quincy Wilson at 16—Is he the next big thing in American track and field?

Quincy Wilson will not be able to have his favorite ice cream for quite some time now. Competing in the US Olympic trials, the 16-year-old achieved a feat that most would not even dream of. The Bullis School student punched his ticket to the Paris Olympics 2024, becoming the youngest American to do so. En route to Paris, he broke the record of Erriyon Knighton and Jim Ryun. Although Wilson missed the 400m individual event, the teenager will surely be making America proud in the 400m relay. 

Well, speaking of making people proud, it was his coach who received the confirmation phone call. And surely, he couldn’t be more proud to hear the news. Training Wilson from a young age. The news was like a dream come true for him. So without further delay, here’s everything about Quincy Wilson’s coach. 

Who is track and field star Quincy Wilson’s coach?

Quincy Wilson is trained by Joe Lee. Lee is currently serving as the Bullis track and field head coach in Maryland. He has been with the school for 12 years now and, over the years slowly transformed the track and field dynamics of the school. Lee started his coaching with only a couple of parents signing up as volunteers. But as the years rolled on, Lee began receiving more help from the school authorities.

Cut to 2024, Lee’s coaching is flourishing with 12 staff managing his team. The investments put in by the Bullis School administration have surely borne rich fruits. Since 2014, the school has clinched 14 conference championships. This goes on to show the level of credibility that Joe Lee possesses. With the hype for the Olympics getting bigger each day in the US, the Bullis School is at the center of attraction.

It is here that the 16-year-old Quincy Wilson had trained alongside Joe Lee. But Wilson is not the only star pupil of Lee. Competing in the 100m hurdles at the US trials, Masai Russell, a Bullis graduate, secured the top spot as well. Thus, Joe Lee is fast rising to the ranks of being termed as a celebrity coach. And while his students are yielding magic on the tracks, Lee looks ever so elated speaking about them.

Joe Lee is more than happy to talk about Quincy Wilson. Reflecting on the news of his qualification, Lee stated,He’s a phenomenal student and an outstanding role model for his peers. He does great off the track in the classroom and on the track, so we’re super proud of him.” Although it is not sure whether Wilson will ultimately feature on the main relay team, that does not seem to diminish Coach Lee’s level of excitement. 

Lee doubled down on his notions of Quincy Wilson’s character. Wilson’s coach pointed out that his kindness and work ethic are two qualities that make Wilson stand out from the herd. Lee also mentioned that Wilson is a fun-loving person. But once it is time for work, there is no one more serious and focused than him. Well, with expectations building, it will be interesting to see how Quincy Wilson fares in Paris.
