The 2025 track and field season has just started, and Noah Lyles is already making headlines. Lyles won the 60m indoor university competition in Gainesville, Florida, with 6.62 seconds. Not many people know that this Florida-based runner’s family also has a long history in the sprinting realm. In his early years, Noah Lyles embarked on his athletic journey as a gymnast and later transitioned into track and field. How was he inspired by the track?
It was his parents who inspired him to pursue sprinting as a career, and they were also the ones who shaped him as a runner. In 2024, Noah notched up 9.83 seconds in the 100m Olympic trials and won gold in Paris. But how has his ironclad family stuck by his side? Both of his parents were professional runners, and they have brought glory to America quite a few times. On the other hand, his younger brother, Josephus Lyles, is also pursuing the same career as his brother and parents.
Josephus has already participated in numerous races, and he has even raced against Noah Lyles several times. Must be curious to know about Noah Lyles’s brother. Here is everything you want to know about the Lyles family. Noah Lyles was born on July 18, 1997, in Gainesville, Florida, and his formative years played out in Alexandria, Virginia, where he nurtured the dream of becoming a track and field wunderkind. He widespread recognition when he secured the top spot on the podium at the 2014 World Junior Championships in the 200-meter event. Lyles kept honing his skills, and one day he stunned the world when he broke Michael Johnson’s 200-meter national record at the 2022 World Athletics Championship in Eugene. He clocked a sensational time of 19.31 seconds in the meet and also became the third-fastest 200-meter runner in history.
Who are Noah Lyles’s parents? Know all the details about them
Noah Lyles comes from a family with a strong track and field background. His parents, Keisha Caine Bishop and Kevin Lyles, both participated in track and field events and represented Seton Hall University in their early days. His father was a part of the team that won the 4×400-meter world championship title in 1995 in Gothenburg. However, he did not participate in the race and was available as an alternative runner. Their son took over the baton of the sprinting legacy and is going great so far in his career. What does the Olympics mean to Noah and his brother?

“To them, making the Olympics was like getting a driver’s license because they have been raised around so many track and field Olympians,” Keisha told ‘Today’ in June 2024. How has their journey in the Olympics been so far? Noah made his debut in 2020 in Tokyo after failing the 2016 Olympic trials. He has won three medals so far, one gold and one bronze at the Paris Olympics and one bronze at the Tokyo Olympics. However, Josephus couldn’t clear the 2024 Olympics trials. Having two talented track and field stars as their sons, Keisha and Kevin must be so proud. But have you ever thought about how Noah’s parents met?

In the 1990s, Keisha and Kevin met at Seton Hall University, where they both were exceptional track and field athletes. Keisha studied Spanish and political science off the track. After graduating in 1995, Keisha and Kevin got married shortly after. According to the Asbury Park Press, John Moon, the track coach at Seton Hall, stated in 1995, “Their children are probably going to be very fast people.” And it has been proven with time. What did Noah Lyles’ parents’ professions look like?
Keisha was a 10-time All-American, a 9-time Big East Conference winner, and a two-time NCAA champion with the women’s 4×400 relay squad. Kevin, meanwhile, won a medal at the 1995 World Championships, participated in the 1996 Olympic trials, and was awarded the Most Outstanding Track Performer in the 1993 Big East Indoor Championship. Noah Lyles’ upcoming athlete brother Josephus Lyles
Josephus Lyles is 369 days younger than Noah, and as they say, your elders inspire you in many ways. Josephus also chose the same path as his elder brother, running (track and field). Josephus is one of the promising American talents and is currently ranked #27 in the 200m category. It would not be surprising to mention that he was ranked #8 in the same category, which underscores the fact that he can break into the scene anytime in the future. How’s the bond between Lyles’ brothers?
The love and bond between the brothers are like any other sibling. They might fight and have differences of opinion, but in the end, they will stand with each other. Any incident about the same? Once Josephus stated that his brother “makes sure that whatever he needs, he’s going to get.” But when two siblings are in the same profession, making comparisons is common. Josephus also had the same feelings.
Josephus had feelings of inadequacy as he felt he came up short when compared to his brother. He once quipped, “At that point, I was comparing myself to Noah and thinking, OK, well, he’s achieved all of this. I train just as hard as him; we do similar things, but I feel like I’m not achieving that.” Not to fret, as he’s made his fair share of laurels too. In conversation with Andre Champan Jr., Josephus shared his feelings about not seeing the practice on track.
He said, “I was having a very hard time actually transferring my practice to the track. Even though I was running great in practice, I wasn’t seeing it on track.” How has Josephus’s professional journey been so far? Josephus wanted to get entry into the USA team in the 2024 Paris Olympics; he tried for the 100-meter dash. Unfortunately, he could not qualify for the trials. Can you imagine that in his childhood he hated track?
“I did not enjoy it at all, so I quit track around fifth or sixth grade,” Josephus Lyles said. He tried 400m and 800m events in elementary school. But destiny has other goals. He made it another chance to track when he was in the eighth grade. That’s when the passion for running ignited in him and he started his training session. But now he has made records too. Josephus Lyles started earning medals and accolades even before he finished school.

He won his first gold medal in the 4x400m relay at the IAAF World U20 Championships in 2014. Later in 2015, he participated in the World Youth Championships and won a bronze in two events—the 400m and 200m races. Like his brother Noah, Josephus is also a speed force on track. At the NACAC Championships in Freeport, Josephus won a bronze medal in the 200-meter race. And he recorded his personal best at the time, clocking out in 19.93 seconds, which put him in the top 100 of all time for the event.
Other siblings of Noah Lyles and what they do
Apart from Josephus, Noah also has a sister named Abby Lyles, who posts pictures and posts with Lyles on her Instagram. However, there is no concrete proof as to whether these two are real siblings or cousins. She once posted a clip in which both the Lyles brothers are seen playing with some kids, and she captioned the post, “When playing with your cousins goes wrong.” However, Abby is not an athlete and is more indulgent in her academics currently.
Noah Lyles has a younger brother, Josephus Lyles, who is also a renowned track and field runner. Josephus attended T. C. Williams High School, and in 2016, he signed a deal with Adidas, following in his elder brother’s footsteps, and began his professional journey. He began his career on a high note, as Josephus has one World U20 champion, one Pan American U20 champion, one Pan American U20 Championship silver medalist, and one World U18 Championship silver medalist.
Noah Lyles is a sprinting sensation who carries a legacy of track and field in his family. His parents, both former athletes, laid the foundation for his remarkable career. His younger brother, Josephus, follows in his footsteps, aiming for Olympic glory. With a supportive family, Noah’s journey to track stardom continues. With his unwavering confidence, he will undoubtedly be an athlete to keep a close eye on in upcoming events.
