The 29-year-old Hudon-Smith almost joined the national army. But his 2014 achievements helped Smith realize his calling for the sprints! That’s right. Matthew Hudson-Smith no longer wishes to be in the army; now his goal is to become the second British man to win the Olympic 400m. He has previously stated, “It’s not about the European record; I’ve got it. It’s about the gold now. You can take away time, but a medal is yours forever. To become an Olympic champion would mean the world to me. It would be a combination of 10 years of hard work in one moment. The time is now.”

Hudson has received an advanced apprenticeship in sporting excellence at Loughborough College. He has also done physical education and sports coaching at the University of Worcester’s St. John’s Campus. He first took a leap in sport at the age of 10, and by 11 he had started playing football at the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy.

What is Matthew Hudson-Smith’s ethnicity?

Although Smith has never confirmed his ethnicity, one interview from earlier this year vaguely suggests that Matthew Hudson-Smith has Jamaican roots. When the sprinter went to play in the inaugural Jamaica Athletics Invitational, he mentioned how he was excited to meet his family there.

The British black athlete has never talked about his roots before. However, he is all in to influence his race. During Black History Month, the athlete put forward his visions and goals. He declared, “As a black athlete, it means I can inspire other black athletes to take the stage and represent themselves.”
