Gabby Thomas’s journey to becoming an Olympic sprinter didn’t begin on the track. Gabby Thomas’ boyfriend Spencer McManes was a football player during his high school days. He has not only spent quite a few years playing for Yale Bulldogs but also has been their steadfast supporter. Hailing from Roswell, Georgia, and a standout athlete in his own right, McManes has shared his journey with Gabby, understanding the grit and determination required to excel as an athlete. 

McManes also led the Austin Huns Rugby Football Club to a remarkable three-peat at the TOLA 7s Rugby Championships with his incredible captaincy skills. During his days with the Yale Bulldogs back in 2013, Spencer intended to pursue a career in Chemistry. Now, 11 years later, he is a Senior Customer Manager for the coveted software company, Data Grail.

In his football days, McManes also won the title of the most offensive player in 2011. Additionally, he was named the North Fulton Male Athlete of the Month in November 2013. Besides being a sports fanatic and an athlete himself, he developed a deep interest in fishing during his college years. Spencer also enjoyed listening to country music. Leaving behind a fulfilling athletic career, Spencer now takes great pride in Thomas. He frequently shares snapshots of the beautiful moments they spend together on his social media handles. McManes has also mentioned that they share more than just a love for sports; they also have another shared passion, and that’s pizza. Spencer has posted a video on his Instagram showing the couple enjoying pizzas at various food joints. He captioned the video, “You could say pizza is our love language”. It’s clear that with their shared love for athleticism, pizza, and mutual support for each other, they will continue to reach new heights together.
