Christian Coleman is eyeing a gold rush Diamond League, which is to be held in China on April 26. With a personal best of 9.76 s in the 100m, Coleman is looking to smash in the upcoming events. Starting his career for Tennessee, Coleman soon emerged as one of the dominant champions of the US tracks. His major accomplishments include gold medals in the World Indoor Championships as well as the World Championships in Athletics. Adding to his tally of greatness, Coleman notched up significant victories in the 100-meter events of the 2018 and the 2023 Diamond Leagues.
Now, Coleman is looking to aim for the sky. Expressing his desire to topple Usain Bolt’s record, Coleman feels that running under 9.58s is in my wheelhouse. Well, he can break the world record one day, but to do so, Coleman would need a guide. And it is this very guide who has been helping Coleman to attain heights of glory in recent times. Here is everything about his coach, Tim Hall.

Meet Tim Hall: Christian Coleman’s Coach
Tim Hall has a coaching CV many would envy. Hall has 118 All-Americans, 4 Olympians, 10 NCAA National Champions, and 1 Olympic gold medalist in his list of successful students. However, his most notable pupil has to be Christian Coleman.

Hall has been with Coleman right from his college days. His guidance led Coleman to win the outdoor 100 & 200m as well as the indoor 60 & 200m in one season. This was such a rare feat in the NCAA that Coleman became only the second to do so besides Justin Gatlin. Hall proved his worth as a coach in the very first season he took up duties for Tennessee. Besides giving the team five All-American honors, he also crafted Coleman to win the SEC Freshman Runner of the Year award.
Hall’s expert guidance also saw Coleman as the first athlete from the University of Tennessee to score at the NCAA meet. The duo then teamed up to replicate the success in the outdoor season as well. Coleman’s antics earned him the SEC Co-Freshman of the Year award, establishing him as the next big thing in the US track and field realm. However, it is not only Tim Hall but another legendary coach who is also helping Coleman realize his Olympic dreams.
Tim Hall’s career highlights and achievements
Tim Hall’s coaching game is straight-fire. Right now, he’s running the show at South Carolina’s Track & Field/Cross Country programs, and in his first year alone, the dude had athletes dropping 95 Top-10 program marks, breaking 21 school records, and bagging 27 All-American honors—oh, and he casually grabbed the USTFCCCA Women’s Coach of the Year award for the Southeast. Not a bad flex for Year 1.
But let’s rewind. Before South Carolina, Hall was low-key building legends at Kentucky. He turned Abby Steiner into a Bowerman Award queen (think track’s MVP trophy) and had her smashing records like it was her side hustle—22.09 in the indoor 200m, breaking collegiate records four times, and even a wild 35.80 in the 300m. Oh, and he helped Kentucky snag 6th at NCAAs with a squad stacked with All-Americans.
And hey, remember Christian Coleman? The couch-hopping toddler-turned-sprint king? Yeah, Hall coached him too at Tennessee, guiding him to a 2017 season for the history books—NCAA titles in the 60m, 100m, 200m, and the 4x100m relay. At Clemson, he turned Brianna Rollins into a hurdles GOAT with a 12.26 American record and a Bowerman win. Add in 5 Olympians, a world champ, and over 150 All-Americans he’s molded. Bro’s the Midas of track coaching—everything he touches turns to gold.
Who else had Tim Hall coached besides Christian Coleman?
Tim Hall’s coaching magic isn’t just about turning couch-jumping toddlers into world champs. At Tennessee, he had Nathan Strother out here flexing a 45.07 in the 400m (second-fastest in school history!) and snagging All-American honors. And then there’s Shania Collins—she straight-up owned the SEC Outdoor Championships, grabbing silvers in the 100m and 200m, breaking Tennessee’s 100m record (10.99), and dropping a wind-aided 21.97 in the 200m that’s still the fastest ever in college history, conditions be damned.

But wait—Hall’s genius isn’t Tennessee-exclusive. At Kentucky, he turned Dezerea Bryant into a boss move: she became the first Wildcat woman to win an NCAA sprint title in 200m indoors, in 2014, added a 60m silver, and piled up 18 points for her squad like it was a side hustle.
And in Clemson he turned Brianna Rollins into a hurdling legend with her 12.26 American record (still standing!) and a Bowerman Award. In short, he didn’t just coach stars—he built them.

Legendary coach John Smith also played a pivotal role in shaping Coleman’s career
Christian Coleman had also opted to take the services of the legendary coach, John Smith. Ahead of the Olympics, Coleman wanted to leave no stone unturned while ensuring top-notch training. For the uninitiated, John Smith has helped several athletes ascend to the heights of greatness. Some of his notable students include Steve Lewis, Carmelita Jeter, and English Gardner.
However, after disappointing at the Paris Olympics 2024, Coleman wants to win all the upcoming races. He recently participated in the Christian Coleman Invitational hosted by Westlake in Atlanta, and his girlfriend, Sha’Carri Richardson, accompanied him.
