Coming fresh off a brutal 1500m final, Laura Muir had finally done it! Despite missing out on a gold, the Olympic silver medalist had clinched a bronze at the Paris Diamond League. Her time of 3:53:79 seconds set a new British 1500m mark and improved upon the national record she set back at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Who would’ve thought that back in February 2022, a stress fracture had almost brought the long-distance runner’s career to a standstill? “It was the most significant injury I’ve ever had in my running career” – she said.
But, Muir has put all of that behind her and will now be focusing on the upcoming Summer Games in Paris. This will be the Olympian’s third run. After an unsuccessful bid in Rio and a silver medal in Tokyo, Laura Muir will be looking to change it into a shiny Olympic gold. As she prepares to set foot at the French capital, who will be cheering her on from the stands? Let’s find out!

Meet Alison and Crawford Muir, parents of Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Laura Muir
Laura Muir hails from a quaint city, Inverness in Scotland. However, when she was three, her parents Alison and Crawford Muir moved to Milnathort. Muir and her younger brother Rory have spent most of their lives there. Laura attended Kinross High School, and would often practice on the school playing fields. Her mother Alison would often illuminate a certain part of the field for the runner before the hockey and rugby teams would arrive. Her parents have always been her biggest cheerleader and have supported her every step of the way since she began her career at 13-years-old.
The 2-time European Champion has always been close to her family. So much so that they even have a Christmas tradition at the Muir household. Like every other family, they would start the day with opening Christmas presents. Right after the long-distance runner would then head off to practice. But as soon as she’s back, they have a family meal and then head off for a walk in the Scottish countryside. When they’re back, they end the day with dinner, and then a Christmas movie or game night. Sounds cozy, doesn’t it?

The Scottish long-distance runner never forgets to share her victories with her parents
Back in 2018, Laura Muir had clinched an effortless win at the European Champions in the women’s 1500m. Standing atop the podium at the iconic Berlin Olympic Stadium must’ve been surreal. But the win was even more special for the Olympian because her parents were watching her from the stands. It’s not odd for her supportive family to show up at her meets. However, this time it was special. “Every single time they’ve been there, I’ve not delivered the medal for them. So I knew I had to get them a medal this time.” And boy, did she deliver!
