Since his talent was discovered while playing rugby in high school, Ferdinand’s family has been extremely supportive of his sprinting career. Ferdinand Omanyala is the third of five siblings. His younger brother, Isaac Omurwa, is following in Ferdinand’s footsteps, showing a keen interest in sprinting. Isaac, who graduated high school with a B+ grade, is the first graduate in their family. In his first competitive race at the Trials for the East Africa U18 Championships, he secured first place with a time of 10.73 seconds. In his second race in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, he won again and set a personal best of 10.72 seconds. Isaac credits Ferdinand for his constant encouragement, allowing him to train alongside him in the gym and on the track, and providing the necessary equipment for his training.

Isaac told Capital Sport, “I can say he [ Ferdinand ] has influenced me 90pc. He has been the one encouraging me to take up the sport and he has allowed me to train with him in the gym and on the track, things that are not easy to get for anyone starting up the sport.” Isaac also shifted his focus from rugby to sprinting. What began as a casual interest has evolved into a recognition of his talent and a determination to pursue a career in the sport. He dreams of running alongside Omanyala one day and even surpassing his records. The friendly rivalry between the brothers motivates them both to strive for excellence.
