The Dubai Marathon is back in the Olympic year, only to serve as a perfect pedal to the marathoners. Months ago, the Dubai Sports Council announced the nooks and crannies regarding the penultimate event on January 7 in Jumeirah Dubai. This year, the presentation held a lot of additional parts, hoping to bring fresh faces to the fore.
Last time it was the turn of Abdisa Tola, brother of world champion Tamirat Tola, to rise in the glitz. Eventually, in the women’s category, Tamirat’s wife Dera Dida secured victory. This time, the 42.195 km route race is coming with several changes to remain distinct. Let’s have a look at that.

This time the Dubai Marathon has returned to the Jumeirah Beach road route which held the marathon event in 2020 for the last time. Moreover, several other inclusions may also take center stage as a gripping factor. This time the track and field community will witness the 10k road race, the jubilant 4k Fun Run, and a motivating wheelchair marathon in the prized event. The trademark 42 km event will give out a list of 10 participants to be awarded. For the rest of the events, the number of awardees will be just 3, but there will be special races for the UAE nationals. However, the most gripping factor might be the prize money that holds an equal sum to the male and female sprinters.
As the Dubai marathon. org dictates the total prize money will reach a whooping 504,000 USD in total. However, the Jumeirah Group remains the lead sponsor. Being a stakeholder, the group is aiming to touch the record of putting the largest number of corporate participants into the race.
However, the main list of elite participants stays respectable. In the women’s main event, Betty Chepkwony, the Rome Marathon winner in 2023, and Haiven Hailu Desse will be the prime. The men’s event will showcase names such as Workineh Tadese and Kebede Tulu Wami. But they will miss the phenom, Abdisa Tola, this time for his injury. Meanwhile, the organizers also stole the spotlight with their arrangements.

This time, the Jumeirah Group made sure to make the Dubai Marathon an extravagant and memorable event. The return to the old venue attested to that. Moreover, to train their employees for the event, the group built a whole new center. “The Oasis Village Sports Arena is a special addition and one the employees have embraced,” Gordon Rech, a bigwig from the group, added.
